Started The wife upstairs by Freida McFadden and before you ask, yep it was a planned move to read this one right after Verity given how similar the premise is. But i wasn’t prepared for how similar. The first scene is almost copied and it’s set in Manhattan too!

So I initially thought Freida’s book came out first but turns out Verity did.

I’m waiting to see how many more similarities I’ll find! Anyone else read these two books? I’m eager to chat with you if yes! 😀

ETA: finished it. There were twists! Many many similarities with Verity. Idk how she got away with this

Finished the Housemaid Series by Freida McFadden. Loved Book # 1, Book # 2 was good too but Book # 3 was disappointing.

I think I need to give Freida a break smiley36, I'm getting good at guessing her twists/ plot points.

On to Local Woman Missing by Mary Kubica. I have heard good things about this book, but she's a new-to-me author so we'll see.

Just finished ‘Verity’ by Colleen Hoover. My first CoHo book and idk how I feel about it. This author was said to be problematic and I can see why. Though it kept me engrossed when I was reading it also gave me the ick. The characters were soooo bland though, especially the MMC. I didn’t get why these women were in love with him! 🙄

I gave it 4 stars only because it kept me hooked and I couldn’t put it down but now I wonder - did I really like it? I guess I understand why this author leaves so many readers feeling this way 😃

This is psychological thriller so I guess I understand why I would feel like this - most Psyc thrillers are like this - leave you with a mix of unease, dread and ick. But idk if I will read her romances. The wiring was pretty mediocre and the characters so one-dimensional. If this is how she writes romances, I know it won’t work for me. I need my characters to be well fleshed out in romances.

Sorry if you've already read it, but a lot of people have told me that Verity is just a cheap knock-off of Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier. I personally haven't gotten around to reading Rebecca yet, but I've only ever heard good things about it.

I've been too distracted by other things to get back to AGGGTM #3, but I swear I'll get back to it eventually. I needed something light after finally finishing The Atlas Six, so it's been a lot of children's books and romances which like, was not my plan at all for spooky season. I probably already said this, but I read Puckboys #6 and I think it's my second-favourite of all six books. I also listened to The Frat Wars trilogy by Saxon James before Puckboys #6, since the main character in that book was a side character in the trilogy. I'm pretty sure this was the first series I read that Saxon James wrote herself, which made Puckboys #6 really interesting because now I can kind of differentiate between Saxon James and Eden Finley's writing (and I might not even be right half the time, it's just made their co-written works a lot more fun to analyze).

I also just finished listening to Tastes Like Shakkar and it was so good! It's the second book in the If Shakespeare Was An Indian Auntie trilogy (the first one being Dating Dr. Dil) and I do believe that this was a retelling of Much Ado About Nothing. I think I did end up liking this better than the first book just because it improved on some gripes I had with that first book. This book was also so much funnier, I really hope this series gets adapted someday! I'm actually starting book #3 right away, except I'll be reading the ebook instead of listening to it because I am not waiting 11 weeks for the audiobook to be available.

I did read Dating Dr. Dil and Tastes like Shakkar! Haven't gotten to Book # 3 yet but I think I like Deepak and Veera the most of all these characters so I'm hoping to read it very soon. I actually haven't read Romance in a while - have been distracted by Thrillers.

Reading The 71/2 deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle right now. And will be reading the Mindf*ck series (finally!) after this.

About Rebecca, yeah I've read it and watched the movie(s). The recent one with Lily James and Armie Hammer is horrible. If you ever want to watch - I'd recommend the Laurence Olivier and Joan Fontaine version.

Verity is kinda similar to Rebecca but I would think it's more similar to Jane Eyre where Rochester has a mad wife stashed away in the upstairs bedroom. In Rebecca, the premise is that the second wife discovers some secrets about Rebecca who's the first wife. But The Wife Upstairs is spookily similar to Verity - in fact, I would consider it almost plagiarised if not for a couple of twists. It's eerie how similar they are.

I'll keep you updated on it because I'm starting it soon! I do have high expectations for this one because they're getting a friends-to-lovers arc and I'm a friends-to-lovers girl through and through. Plus, I love Twelfth Night, it's my favourite play after Hamlet and it's also the only one of the three I've actually read. smiley37

Let me know how you found the other two because I definitely have some thoughts!

Omg, I loved Mindf*ck!!! I was really nervous going into it because I've been burned by booktok before, but it's genuinely so good. I had such a cathartic reaction to it that I did not expect, it's such a satisfying book, I've definitely been in the mood to read it again.

I mean, considering the fact that Colleen Hoover blocked me on Twitter for implying the same, I wouldn't be surprised. (like, girl I didn't even tag you, how did you find me??)

Wait what? She blocked you? smiley5 What for? smiley11 For implying Verity is similar to The Wife Upstairs? I thought that at first too then found out that TWU was published after Verity. So don't know what she's offended about? smiley8 Freida should be worried if anything.

I actually started Marriage and Masti and I was bored out of my wits. Couldn't feel the chemistry between DeepVeer smiley18 smiley37 although they're both nice people I guess - especially Deepak. So I've decided to shelve it going by my new resolution of DNFing books if I can't get into them within the first 50 pages. Have shelved The 7 1/2 deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle too. So I guess that means I'm starting the Mindf*ck series sooner rather than later! smiley17

Aw man, really? I got to chapter 10 of Marriage and Masti last night before my tablet died and I was having so much fun with it - Nisha Sharma is hilarious!

Mindf*ck is definitely the ideal book to get out of a reading slump!!

I’m definitely not in a slump but maybe I’m a little impatient cos I’ve been reading all these fast-paced thrillers. I’ve been devouring them actually so anything that doesn’t catch my fancy immediately loses my focus.

No, I get that! I'd say stick thrillers until they're no longer of any interest to you, because you're not gonna be able to get invested in a romance if you're in a thriller mood.
