Finished:

Never Lie - Freida McFadden - OMG, I'm so mad at Freida after this! I think I'm gonna take a pause on her books!

The House across the lake - Riley Sagar (I did not expect this book to take a turn like that! smiley11)

Behind Closed Doors - B.A. Paris - Not sure how I felt about this one. The plot was compelling - the writing - not so much. I found myself skimming through half of it because everything is told as a narrative and there aren't enough dialogues.

Moving on to my next reads - I found them on Amazon Prime yayyy! So no long waits for my holds at the library!

What lies between us - John Marrs

The perfect child - Lucinda Berry

Stillwater girls - Minka Kent

All of the above are new-to-me authors so let's see how that goes.

from where do you download books.. thanks for this list. Which library ?

Have you read - The girl on the train? Wonderful in this genre.

I haven't read that yet, it's on my TBR!

I get them on Prime Reading. Haven't subscribed to KU yet though I might consider doing so soon. I borrow from the public library in the city I'm in. Don't know of any public libraries in India but I remember one called JustBooks or something. It wasn't a public one and you had to pay for membership but I recall them having a decent collection. Not sure if they're in all Indian cities though.

okay.. city library. Yeah got few from there, the city library in my town is very small but will give it a try again.

No-no, not looking for library in India, I was thinking about online library.

But do try that one.

Personally, I enjoyed it more because those days I used to take an hour of commuter rail daily and read it during my commute. So some descriptions were so relatable .smiley36

Oh online library - I don't know of any that has free membership. I hear some in the US offer membership for a nominal fee but you need to have a local address. You could try that if you wish to. The only one I know of is KU. There are loads of sites that you can download from, just Google the book - you might get lucky!

Something I didn't plan to read but ended up reading anyway was Roommate Arrangement by Saxon James. I've been out all day, lots of walking and tons of time on the transit and I figured I'd listen to an audiobook instead of music today. Tell me how and why I got through half of it already. smiley37 It's nearly an 8-hour book and I have less than 4 hours left. This feels like a five-star read already and it's definitely my favourite Saxon James book! I've said this before, but being able to now notice the significant differences between her writing and Eden Finley's and also see what they each excel in has been just the most fun for me.

I can honestly see myself finishing this one by the end of the day, so I might try and get back to Marriage and Masti tomorrow but honestly, I plan to watch Do Patti with my parents tonight and that might just put me in a thriller mood.

UPDATE: I completely forgot about Marriage and Masti because my hold expired... I'll get back to it eventually, I swear. smiley37

I finished 5/6 books in the Divorced Men's Club series, and I will say that I think overall, this is definitely my favourite series and every single book was a hit for me. I don't even think I can really rank them, they're all so different and so good. Book #6 is the last book in the series, so I'm saving that for next year because everyone who's read it said that it was the saddest one, so I'm not gonna end my year in a depressive episode, thank you so much.

Now, I say this, but I started reading another Saxon James series a few days ago and tell me why I just spent my bus ride home crying?? It was kinda slow in the beginning, but then like, from Chapter 20 onwards, for some reason, I'm just sobbing. Will keep y'all updated on this one, because I want to finish the next two books by end of the year, and then read Book #4 & #5 next year.

Not a romance, which is a bit of a shocker for me, but I finished reading Ace of Spades by Faridah Àbíké-Íyímídé a few weeks ago. I don't know if anyone remembers this, but there was a lot of hype surrounding this book back in like 2021 I think? Regardless, it is absolutely worth the hype! It's about these two students - Chiamaka and Devon - who are the only Black students at this very prestigious private school, and during their senior year, this weird Gossip Girl/A from PLL type of entity starts spreading rumours but also spilling their secrets - and they seem to be the only targets. Now, I will say that Part 1 was very slow (it took me a couple days to get through it), but when I got to the end of Part 1, the pacing of the book seemed to pick up from there and I read it all in one sitting. I really like this book, please do give it a read, but search up trigger warnings!

I'm currently reading Four Eids and a Funeral, which is co-written by Faridah Àbíké-Íyímídé and Adiba Jaigirdar. It's about two former childhood friends named Said and Tiwa who had a falling out (haven't gotten to that reveal yet, sorry) and apparently, this is a retelling of Much Ado About Nothing; I'm taking this as my sign to try and read Much Ado About Nothing next year since I've read/watched so many retellings of it. I'll share more of my thoughts once I'm done, but I will say that I think I prefer Faridah's thrillers to when she tries her hand at romance because I just think she has a knack for building up to these really intense situations, whereas the more lighthearted scenes in her book feel very slow and one-note.

Just finished The Inmate by Freida McFadden. Ho hum! 🥱 Well I shouldn’t be so unkind because I keep going back to her books. They’re easy reads and they’re helping me get closer to my reading goals for this year! 😀 Still—- it was too predictable and the FL is TSTL (I just found out what this means so imma keep using it 😀)

Onto The Ex Vows by Jessica Joyce. I have high expectations since I loved You, with a view by her. Also it’s been a long time since I read a romance I really enjoyed so I’m hoping this one will pull me back into the genre 🤞🏼

Arribada: The Arrival

This is the book that I'm currently reading. It's a fun but thought provoking book. It helps you journey within and find that peace in you.

It's a beautiful book.

UPDATE: I mentioned that I started reading yet another Saxon James series called Accidental Love. I didn't really like the first book that much, but books 2 & 3 were really good! I also listened to a standalone novel co-written by Saxon James & Eden Finley. It's called 'The B*stard and the Heir' and I can confidently say it's my least favourite book from either of them. Forbidden romance is enjoyable when it's actually done well (or at least in the way that I like to enjoy it) and this book was just not my cup of tea. I will say though, one of the narrators did such a good job, I've never actually full-on sobbed due to an audiobook narration before.

I also finished reading Four Eids and a Funeral and I really enjoyed it! Although it didn’t give me that same five-star feeling that ‘Ace of Spades’ or ‘Hani and Ishu’s Guide to Fake Dating’ did, I’d definitely re-read it and recommend it to people. 4.5 stars for this one!

Just finished ‘Look Closer’ by David Ellis and I have to say I get all the hype about this book! So good! 🤌🤌 Just when you think you have it all figured out, the author throws in another surprising twist. I figured out at least one major plot point and was feeling so proud and smug but then the rest hit me outta nowhere! Worth a read for sure - a welcome change from all the Freida MacFaddens I’ve been consuming lately smiley36
