🏏S A's tour of India, 2025:India vs South Africa,1st ODI-- Ranchi🏏

IND vs SA Head to Head, Playing XI, Players List, Match Prediction, Pitch Report | India vs South Africa 1st ODI 2025

Not often do India find themselves surrounded by question marks over their Test form at home. But clean sweeps against New Zealand and South Africa on home turf over the last 12 months have certainly invited plenty of scrutiny.

From that standpoint, the players and coaching staff would certainly welcome a change in scenario. ODI cricket is a format where India are largely comfortable.

They won the Champions Trophy earlier in the year and even though they don't play many games in the format these days, the presence of their star duo would be a massive boost.

Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli headlined India's previous ODI assignment in Australia considering it's the only format they play now in national colours.

Without a doubt, there's going to be plenty of focus on these two over the next one week, again in January and whenever India take the field to play 50-over cricket.

At the twilight of their careers, Rohit and Kohli will bring cheer to a gloomy outfit and if they can provide that extra bit of spark on the field with the bat, India will back themselves to return to their best on the field again.

India vs South Africa 1st ODI Playing 11 | India vs South Africa ODI Playing 11 | IND vs SA 2025 - YouTube

Yashasvi Jaiswal has been patiently waiting for this opportunity to add to his solitary ODI cap. He is expected to open alongside Rohit but India have calls to make in the middle order. Rahul has confirmed that he would bat at six so an allrounder could slot in at five if India seek a sixth option with the ball.

Probable XI: Rohit Sharma, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant (WK), Nitish Reddy, KL Rahul (C), Ravindra Jadeja, Washington Sundar, Kuldeep Yadav, Harshit Rana, Arshdeep Singh

South Africa

Quinton de Kock's successful comeback to 50-over cricket and Aiden Markram's return should keep Ryan Rickelton out for now. Matthew Breetzke will have to shoulder a lot of responsibility in the middle order after making a spectacular start to his ODI career.

Probable XI: Aiden Markram, Quinton de Kock (WK), Temba Bavuma (C), Matthew Breetzke, Rubin Hermann, Dewald Brevis, Marco Jansen, Corbin Bosch, Keshav Maharaj, Nandre Burger, Lungi Ngidi

INDIA vs SOUTH AFRICA 1st ODI SCHEDULE 🔥🔥🏏 #indiancricketteam #INDvSA #odicricket #rohitsharma #fbpost #fblifestylechallenge

This series also presents a rare opportunity to test their bench strength in the ODI format. Having a largely settled batting unit, India have been forced to ring in the changes following the absence of Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer.

While there has been a clamour on social media to straightaway include Ruturaj Gaikwad in the XI, India have no shortage of batting talent in white-ball cricket.

With Hardik Pandya continuing to be unavailable, India could use this series as an opportunity to give Nitish Reddy a prolonged run to ensure they have a backup seam-bowling allrounder ready.

From a South African perspective, they will be looking to pile on more misery on the home side. They just lost their most recent ODI assignment earlier this month in Pakistan but they will be significantly bolstered now with the return of some of their first-choice players.

These three ODIs followed by the T20Is will be of significant importance in terms of exposure in these conditions ahead of the T20 World Cup in February.

Saba Karim: 'Expect Rohit, Kohli to do well in home series'

India will be without their regular ODI captain, Shubman Gill, and his deputy, Shreyas Iyer, in the series, with KL Rahul taking over the reins in the series. It could therefore pave the way for star southpaw Yashasvi Jaiswal’s ODI debut, over two years on since his maiden India cap. There will also be a toss-up between Ruturaj Gaikwad and Tilak Varma, although the former has produced higher and quicker scores in the recent A series against the visiting Proteas.

Key player to watch out for: Virat Kohli

Kohli has been the standout performer at the venue in his career and has struck centuries in two of the four innings he has played here in the past. While he found some runs under his belt in the last ODI in Australia after successive ducks, Kohli could find it a touch difficult to settle in against a menacing South African pace unit. But expect the former India captain to just get back into the thick of things with India wearing a slightly depleted look.

India Playing XI vs South Africa- 1st ODI, South Africa Tour of India 2025

Key player to watch out for: Quinton de Kock

de Kock relished a successful comeback to ODI cricket after reversing his retirement during the Pakistan tour. The wicket-keeper has troubled India in the past and is in the thick of things with three successive fifty-plus scores, including a hundred in Faisalabad earlier this month.

India vs South Africa 1st ODI: Match preview and head-to-head

Both stars looked rusty on their comeback during last month’s ODI series in Australia, beginning with ducks that fuelled speculation about their World Cup future. But by the end of the series in Sydney, their vintage partnership, capped by a century stand for the second wicket, served as a timely reminder not to write them off.

Attention will also be on India’s team combination, with several senior players unavailable. Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj have been rested, while regular captain Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer continue to recover from injuries.

South Africa enter the series riding high after their Test triumph and will look to carry that momentum into a format where their transitioning squad has often been inconsistent. Even without pace spearheads Kagiso Rabada and Anrich Nortje, the visitors remain confident that the belief gained from red-ball success can translate into white-ball sharpness, especially in conditions that will once again test their adaptability.

India vs South Africa Prediction, 1st ODI – Who will win today’s match between IND vs SA?

After a shambolic whitewashing in the Tests, Team India (IND) will now shift their focus to the 1st ODI against South Africa (SA) at the Jharkhand State Cricket Association International Stadium Complex in Ranchi on Sunday, November 30. This series will see India's star pair of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli back in action after their successful outing in Australia.

India lost their last ODI series against Australia by a 1-2 margin, which was played Down Under. However, the biggest positive was the form of Rohit Sharma, as he was also named the Player of the Series for showing brilliant form throughout the three matches. As Shubman Gill is injured, KL Rahul will be leading the team, whereas Rishabh Pant will be handling the duties as wicketkeeper.
