I recently picked up a copy of The Lovely Bones by Alice Seabold, although I haven't finished it yet, I can already say that it will be one of my favorite books.

It's a well written story around a tragedy: a brutal murder of a 14 year old girl. It pretty much starts with her death and then the story highlights her journey in heaven.

The combination of a touching story and catchy style makes this book worth reading for me.

I'm wondering if anyone else has read it? Did you like it?

My understanding is that it is being made into a movie now.

I didn't like the ending, with everything just happening SO quickly in the last two pages. But I loved the irony-fullcircleness with the icicle, that was a nice touch. I read it with my book club and we all sort of agreed it wouldve been if Harvey wouldn't of mentioned in the ending versus how rushed it felt when reading his final fate. I know that author of the book was raped when she was in college so it's interesting the book unraveled the way it did.

I loved the way Sebold wrote Heaven, without there being religious implications of any sort.

The movie is being made by Peter Jackson, he's very well known for making Lord of the Rings, so it's going to be very true to the book. The book has many "big" name actors/actresses and the casting seems fine. I really imagined Jake Gylenhall as the detective but they got someone else, I think Aaron Eckhart is the detective. (two-faced from the dark knight). Stanley Tucci is playing Harvey. The trailer looks really impressive.

Hmm.. I guess I agree there. I just finished the book. I felt that somewhere in the middle of the story it got a bit boring.... It felt like they were being dragged. And then all of a sudden the last two chapters had a lot of action. I personally liked the ending. Sad, but hopeful. The best part according to me were few passages, lines that touched my heart like "You can never choose. I love all three of you." I couldn't really to Suzie's Mom, everyone else I could understand.

Sebold's idea of Heaven was kind of similar to Zevin's elsewhere (I actually don't know which one was written first).

Thanks for the trailer, looks good.
