It's not everyday that you get to interview Amitabh Bachchan - and especially not when you want to ask him everything other than his movies.
But after pleading through numerous text messages on his mobile, the legendary actor agreed to tackle our questions. So here is an uncensored and definitely not misquoted replies of the Big B to our long list of "personal" questions:
You seemed to be having a great time despite a gruelling schedule. how do you manage that? Do you think your blog is almost like de-stresser for you?
I am unable to understand why having a great time cannot be equated with a gruelling schedule. We are in a profession that demands a certain curriculum and it is our duty to comply with it. If I did not enjoy my work I would not have remained in it for 40 years; a time period of no small consequence. My blog, is another personal act of mine, one that I stress on, when I am unable to connect to it everyday. 'De-stresser' is a word I cannot comprehend with, simply because I do not possess the right intellect to understand it.
You seem as much at ease with your fans and us journalists as you with your colleagues in the industry. Do you not get fed up of it all? Ever?
Fed up with what ? Fans, journalists or colleagues ?
Ask my fans if I seem fed up with them. Ask the journalists if I am fed up with them. And ask my colleagues if they feel I am fed up with them. I shall accept their responses, irrespective of what they be.
Coming to films - your recent films and the upcoming ones see you in a lot of action. How do you still manage to remain so active?
I find this question being repeatedly asked of me. Its almost as though you would wish to deny me my attempt at doing what is asked of me in a particular film ! Yes I am 66 and yes at this age and with all my medical and surgical handicaps I do find it tough to do action. But then when has life not been tough.. I can either succumb to it and sit at home and grumble or try to contend with it. I am making an effort at the latter and 'managing' with large doses of Dabur Chawanprash !!
What's your average day like? What time do you wake up and what time do you get to bed?
I wake up when my eyes open in the morning and go to sleep when I cannot keep them open any more !
Are you nervous, as experienced cricketers say they are, before a shot?
Always. Before a shot, before an audience, before doing anything that qualifies for public assessment. Nervous as hell !
With the Unforgettable Tour round the corner what's the atmosphere in the Bachchan household? What can we expect from it?
The atmosphere is one of preparation. And I hope that we can live up to your expectations.
When I spoke with Aishwarya recently she couldn't stop praising your skills as an orator. Both she and Abhishek mentioned how much they have learned from you. My question is since Aishwarya's entry into your home what is the one skill/habit that you have picked up from her?
Drinking warm water, instead of the ice cold water I used to drink.
Abhishek said that whenever all of you are in town you try and have atleast one meal together. What's dinner conversations at your end...like in my home we aren't allowed to discuss work on the dinner table. So do you have any topics that can't be discussed?
The attitude is no different from what prevails in your home or for that matter any other home. And yes other than work we discuss every other thing.
What language do you speak at home? My parents always said Hindi to ensure we learned the language correctly.
We speak several. Hindi, Marathi, Bengali, Tulu, Punjabi and English.
What is the one thing that you as a parent have imparted to Shweta, Abhishek and now Aishwarya?
Be good human beings.
What is the one thing you feel you are yet to achieve?
Everyday there is a challenge to learn something new. I hope God gives me the capacity to continue doing that.
You've been blogging away and as much as we love reading them...my question what will go in the autobiography?
There will be no autobiography, primarily because I do not find myself or my life, worthy enough, to indulge in it.
What do you read? Who are your favourite authors?
I read piece meal and inconsistently, but my favourite is my father.
