• After Raju Chacha, why was Devgan Productions lying low till U Me Aur Hum?
We were not getting the right script and besides, we needed all the time and attention at our disposal to start our next production after Raju Chacha. We all started howling when we heard an emotional script like U Me Aur Hum. But even then, I didn't see myself in it as an actress. It's only when Ajay started talking about the scenes that I told him that I am doing the film. I loved working in this film and am pretty kicked about it.

• What do you play in U Me Aur Hum? How important is this film to you?
I play a waitress on a cruise liner. My character's name is Piya who is a very normal girl. As for the second part of your question, of course, this film is very important to me. In fact, this is our most ambitious project till date. We are expecting a lot from it. Let's see how it goes.

• What is the feedback on Rock N Roll, which you're judging for Zee TV?
I have received very good feedback. Ajay, my mom (Tanuja) and I agreed to judge Rock N Roll because we loved the concept. I am not boasting, but trust me the show is doing quite well.

• But how is it that the three of you end up giving the same marks to the contestants on almost every occasion?
We haven't worked at that but I guess that we all think alike as we are family. Moreover, we have been pretty fair, and I think that is most important.

• Why is it usually so tough to get you to do an interview? But when your film is releasing...
I have done interviews even when my films aren't on the verge of a release. I should have something to talk about na?

• So, is it that you see the media as an evil necessity?
Hmmm... I see it as a necessity for sure especially when I want to promote my upcoming films. But otherwise, it's very evil (laughs). Well, not really. Like we all grow, the media too has grown. We are bound to have paparazzi, and we shouldn't hide our faces in the sand to run away from reality.

• So, are you saying that you are comfortable with the media?
With so many media persons intruding into an actor's life, no actor can be completely comfortable with the media. But yes, one needs to accept that situation and take measures to safeguard one's privacy.

• Ajay has a problem if you work with Shah Rukh Khan?
The thing is that Ajay and I are too busy with our individual lives and we don't attend parties and go out for dinners, and as a result, Shah Rukh and Ajay don't end up crossing paths. Since neither of them has denied or confirmed anything, these rumours haven't died down. Lekin sach mein, aisa kuchh nahin hai.

• So are you working with Shah Rukh in Karan Johar's My Name is Khan?
Karan has approached me for the same and we are talking about it.

• There's too much of Shah Rukh in the film?
I haven't heard the full script as yet.

• Karan is going around saying that you are doing it?
I haven't yet agreed to do it. It will be unethical on my part to say that I am doing the film until I sign on the dotted line.

• Rajkumar Hirani wanted you to do his next film, Idiot?
Yes, but I didn't think that I was the right choice for the role. I love Hirani as a director and have told him to come up with another role for me in the future.

• You are said to be short tempered. Have you changed?
Yes, I have learnt to control my temper. I think it all began when I conceived my daughter (Nysa). I wouldn't say that I have achieved nirvana but I have changed from what I was when I began my career at the age of 16.

• Is your cousin, Rani Mukherji is getting married to Aditya Chopra?
I have no right to comment on Rani's personal life. Frankly, I have no idea if they are getting married or not. I wish them well anyway.

• Have you been in touch with her? We last saw you together in Karan's chat show, Koffee with Karan. It is believed that you two have a cold war going on.
Please! There is no cold war between us. What do you think we are? America and Iraq? I meet Rani at the Durga puja and she is a sweet girl and a fine actress.
