Ankur also the first among the many so called parallel cinema films that were made in the 70's and 80's

i am not sure about the old generation of actresses so can't comment...

Sridevi: very good actress & she has done various role to prove her talent...you can just tell she is really talented when you see her in the song " mere haathon mein nau nau choodyian hain" from chandni...she changed so many expressions with great choreography in that 5-6mins song... 👏

Kajol: over-rated, over-rated, and over-rated !...i like her as an actress...but she shouldn't be listed among such versatiles actresses since she does about the same types of roles...Honestly, she is famous b/c luck was on her side...she is talented but not as talented compared to actresses mentioned in the list.

Kareena: she is a bit over-rated as well...but she has proved her talent by doing various role such as the innocent/simple girl in refugee, to the dumb blonde in k3g thru the bubbly/talkative geet in jab we met...look at her in films like omkara, aitraaz, or dev....she broke the myth of only being a glam doll like her famous character " Poo" of k3g...bebo is definately a deserving candiate. 👏

Rani: indeed, a very good actress...from playing a cute tina in KKHH to playing rhea in hum tum and then a blind girl in black...last yr, she too experimented with different role...very well deserving. 👏

* Madhuri Dixit should have been mentioned in this list...she is one of the finest actresses of b-wood...She gave amazing performances in her classic/hit movies...Dil,khel,Beta, Ram-lakhan,khalnayak,DTPH,devdas, and now Aaja Nachle...superb actress...she truly is a complete package in terms of acting and dancing skills...can't wait to see her in more movies. 👏

* As i mentioned, all are very good actresses....but the title for pathbreaking actress in terms of a whole package goes to Madhuri Dixit and Sridevi...👏👏...all of the other actresses are very close but not up to the mark as compared to vetern actresses.😉

Shabana was very good in so many movies. Personally I don't like to brand any cinema as arty or commerical but that is how everyone does and even these actors divide cinema. For me an actor is truely versatile or has potential when he or she can get into the character, whatever that is.

Just because an actor wears a cotton saree sans make-up doesn't mean that she is brilliant performer and the one with glossy make-up and dancing ones are mediocre. The difference between art and commercial cinema. An actor gives several takes in any type of cinema and often we get confused between actual script of the cinema and actor'c calibre and praise the unworthy😛

Shabana Azmi has failed many times in commerical cinema. She was always mediocre in such movies and don't blame her looks because Smita Patil who isn't much of a looker, was equally good in commercial as well as arty ones. She just fit into every character she played. Now that is an actor with calibre. Shabana is someone who failed in commercial cinema and then decided to stick to art movies because that gave her name and fame. She always keeps herself at par with Smita Patil. According to me she is nowhere near Smita Patil, the actor.

Many could disagree with me but that is their choice. These are my views on Shabana Azmi.

Actually I forgot Rekha who is another versatile actor at par with Smita Patil.

Madhuri definetly should have been mentioned..she broke the male dominancy in hindi movies many times, she managed to steal show from lead actors over and over in a time when actresses were only in movies for songs and to dance around trees.
For example in movies

Beta - where Anil was playing title role..she stole the show from him, critics and audience said movie should have been called "Beti" instead of "Beta"

Raja- here too sanjay kapoor(flop hero) was the main lead..but it was Madhuri, her acting and star power which made movie a HIT

Hum Aapke He kaun - here in this movie too, her dance and karishma made this long musical into a ATBB.

like SRK, Amir and Salman said she is a true Female SuperStar..after she left, we have yet to get a complete actress like her. Rani and Aish came close but they still don't have same power as Madhuri.

and this article didn't even mention her..wat nonsense

I dont consider Madhuri anything special! She hasnt done anything special that actresses before and after her havent done.

We all know she is popular just for stuffing her bra and thumping her chest. I dont consider her an actress, she is just a dancer....thats it.

Madhuri was too much of Jhumka and thumakas. Provocative dance movements that made her famous. Rekha is the best actress of all times and for the present times it has to be Kajol. Noone leaves career when you are at the top. Second her comeback was with Aamir Khan everyother actress is dying to work with him but a married actress like Kajol gets the cake.

Because industry craze for Amitabh, Rekha is ignored by major directors. Only Rakesh Roshan has guts to cast her in his movies. My list will include Sridevi too. She was the one who made Amitabh wait for her. She was just fabulous.

Sridevi is just a LEGEND! Nobody can take her place ever. She is always going to remain at the top of my list!

For me, my path breaking actresses are

Sridevi, Kajol, and Karisma!

Aishwarya, Preity and Rani can be there too, But they need to work for a few more years.

Now I am sure there were actresses before Sridevi that were awesome like Waheeda Rehman, Hema Malini and Rekha but I cannot comment on them because I wasn't born that time and Not to sound like a jerk but i dont like watching old movies 😆
