Career:
Khan has starred in a number of top grossing movies and remains one of the most successful movie stars in Indian Cinema.
His first leading role in a Bollywood movie, was in Rajshri Productions' romantic film Maine Pyar Kiya (1989). The film went on to become one of Indian cinema's all time blockbuster hits. [2] It also won him a Filmfare Best Debut Award, (1990) and a nomination for the Filmfare Best Actor Award. The film also marked the debut of Rajshri director Sooraj Barjatya.
Khan has experienced a mixed bag of hits and misses, the period between Saajan (1991) and Hum Aapke Hain Koun (1994) was the leanest in his acting career, with no hits between them.
His better hits include some Indian cinema's top-grossing movies, such as Sanam Bewafa, Saajan, Karan Arjun, Pyaar Kiya To Darna Kya, Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, Hum Saath-Saath Hain: We Stand United, Biwi No.1, Baghban, Mujhse Shaadi Karogi, Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya?, and most recently, No Entry.
His second venture with director Sooraj Barjatya, Hum Aapke Hain Koun (1994) remains one of Indian cinema's highest grossing films ever.
Later, for his extended special appearance in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998), he earned a Filmfare Best Supporting Actor Award.
He also frequently collaborated with director David Dhawan, they produced several successful comedies like Judwaa (1997), Biwi No.1 (1999) , Mujhse Shaadi Karogi (2004), and Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya (2005).

Relationship troubles:
* His turbulent relationship with Aishwarya Rai filled gossip columns.
* In 2005, he was accused of threatening Ms. Rai four years back, then his ex-girlfriend, to appear at several events sponsored by the Mumbai Underworld, and boasting of his connections to organized crime. The "evidence" was a tape of a mobile phone call, said to have been recorded in 2001 by the Mumbai police, in which he also had (allegedly) insulted a number of fellow actors. The tape was investigated by the Mumbai Police and tested in the Government's Forensic lab in Chandigarh. It proved to be a fake one. The voices in concern were doctored and not real.
