The father of actor Kunal Singh, who allegedly committed suicide last week, has said that his son was in fact murdered.

Retd Col. Rajendra Singh, father of actor Kunal Singh who allegedly committed suicide last week, refuted all the theories that his son was depressed and said at a press conference held in Vile Parle on Tuesday, "Kunal was about to launch his film on February 15 and was very enthusiastic about the project. Why would he end his life?" According to Singh, Kunal had spent the whole day discussing his forthcoming movie Yogi with other members of the team and had also fixed up some appointments the next day. "This is a clear case of murder. Had he planned to commit suicide, he would not have gone ahead with his project this far. I am convinced that he was killed by someone and I am waiting for the investigating authorities to probe the matter," Singh said.

He further clarified that his son's marriage was not going through a tough time. "There were no problems between Kunal and his wife Anuradha. Infact, she had gone to Ahmednagar to visit her father — who is an army officer and a surgeon -— along with their daughter Ananya who was not keeping well. She was supposed to come back that weekend."

Elaborating on his murder theory Singh said, "When I saw Kunal's body at Cooper Hospital, I noticed some marks on his neck, arms and chest. Marks were such as if somebody grabbed him from behind and his arms were pinned down so that he is not in a position to resist." However, Kiran Sonone, senior police inspector of Oshiwara police station, said, "As far as the marks are concerned, we have already explained it to Mr Singh that they were caused while trying to bring down the body from the ceiling fan."

Singh further claims that Lavina, the daughter of their family friend, who was supposed to debut in the movie, could be a major witness. "The fact that Lavina was there at the time of incident indicates that she could have been a witness to his murder. As she has given no such statement to the police, it is clear that she is scared or has been threatened by someone to not to make any statements. Kunal was also involved in some land deals in the past. It is quite possible that he might have been targeted by some land mafia members as a result of some dispute."

Sonone said, "There is no evidence that Kunal was murdered. Had Kunal being murder, and Lavina is the witness, why didn't the killers tried to eliminate Lavina? Besides, she didn't say anything in her statement. We are treating this as a case of suicide. However, if Mr Singh believes that Kunal was murdered, we will investigate all the possible angles."
