| Saajan again? Maker of the 1991 musical hit, Saajan, Lawrence D'Souza is planning to remake his film with Shahid Kapur, John Abraham and Kangana Ranaut. The original had starred Sanjay Dutt, Salman Khan and Madhuri Dixit. "It is true that I am planning to revive Saajan but let me make it clear that it is not a frame by frame remake or a sequel to it. Yes it will be a love triangle like the original but with a lot of things will be different, including the setting. Saajan was almost entirely set in the southern hill station, Ooty but this film will have Kashmir as its backdrop. I am planning to shoot the entire film in Kashmir." reveals the director cum cinematographer. How soon he wishes to start the project and what stars he has in mind for his film? "The scripting is going on and this time it is Rajiv Kaul and Praful Parikh working on it instead of Reema Rakeshnath who wrote the original. Meanwhile I am planning to sign John Abraham, Shahid Kapur and Kangana Ranaut in the lead roles. Talks have begun but are yet to be materialized. Kangana I am sure will be the perfect match because story is set in Kashmir and the heroine shown as a Kashmiri girl. Her features are ideal for the part." D'Souza replies. Saajan's music was a rage when released and broken all records with its audio sales. How does he plan to recreate the magic? "Music of Saajan was given by my friends Nadeem – Shravan and I want them both to come together to compose music for this film as well. I have already had talks with Nadeem in London and he has shown his willingness for the same. I am confident that their music will create a bigger impact than Saajan's did." concludes D'souza. Saajan (1991) A love triangle starring Sanjay Dutt, Salman and Madhuri Dixit, the film was about Aman (Dutt) a handicapped orphan adopted by a wealthy builder, whose only son Aakash (Salman) becomes the best friend of Aman. Both Aakash and Aman grow up as brothers to become different personalities, but both end up falling in love with the same girl Pooja (Madhuri). Pooja loves Sagar, who is a poet. Sagar is none other than Aman. Akash is a casanova, but when he meets Pooja, he too falls in love with her. In the meantime, Aman also gets to know of Pooja and Aman also starts liking Pooja. When Aman comes to know that Akash likes Pooja and wants to marry her, he sacrifices his love for Akash. He also convinces Akash to pretend that he is Sagar to win over Pooja. Pooja starts liking Akash and all is well, until Pooja gets to know the reality.How Pooja reacts to the revelation forms rest of the story. Saajan remained Lawrence D'Souza's only claim to fame. Originally the role of Aman was offered to Aamir Khan but he had declined it after hearing the script. Dutt for the first time in his career had played a handicapped soft hearted character as opposed to his violent hero image then. He had tried to follow up the success of Saajan with Sapne Saajan Ke (1993) with Rahul Roy and Karishma Kapoor in the lead but had flopped miserably. |
