Why is it that nepotism so common in Bollywood? It is because of fans. These pseudo intelligent fans always complain about whats wrong with Bollywood but they will never be the change they want to be.

Why is it that the same people who complain about how Bollywood is inaccesible to outsiders and ones who complain about how you have to be someone's son/daughter/sister to get a big break, are the first people to OVERHYPE AND OVERRATE so called star kids?

Take for example Sonam, Ranbir and countless other mediocre star kids. They becomes big fans of them before the movie even releases all because of the linage or the connections.

Where as the same people make fun of or are unkind to newcomers such as Kangana Ranaut who was 100 times better than these star kids in her first 2 debut movies.

I mean kangana never got anything served to her on a platter, had she been a star kid she would have debuted in some movie directed by SLB or some big shot director and she would be pretending to be some virginal untouched innocent little daddy's girl

and these bollywood fans would fall for it and act as if she's so innocent and sweet..

give me a break

deepika padukone was over-hyped about too, do u call her a star kid?????i do not agree with wat you say, it is not the fans but the media that is to be blamed for overratedness, if these new faces are shown every where before the movie releases ofcourse people will like/dislike them, speaking of kangana, number one - in ur opinion kangana was far ahead but in my opinion kangana hasnt done anything overly gr8, she is not the most beautiful person and she definately cannot carry herself like a star, we have all seen how she dresses and how she talks, if she can't speak in english well than speak in hindi, at least be clear in wat you say, or if she really wants to speak in english then she shud at least learn the language

I agree with you whole heartedly MrsAckles. The Star kids are exactly like the character played by the reincarnated SRK in Om Shanti Om. It is unfortunate that in Bollywood the Star kids, even those with very little talent can do no wrong. It is worse that the new kids who come from all other walks of life, and who in reality are far better actors are frequently belittled and criticized for every darn thing by the likes of the pseudo intellectual fans like us.

I have been very impressed with Kangana Ranaut from her debut film Gangster. She did not have the Bollywood Blue Blood, or some sugar daddy like SLB to give her a dream launch or a Big Maha Bollywood Dad or Mom to send her to some acting institute in the U.S. Yet her performances have been far superior to that of any of the Star kids in their debut films and after, which include the likes of Kareena, Abhishek, Saif, Ranbir, Sonam and what have you.

Sure Kangana is from a small town in U.P. Sure she comes from a middle class family. Sure she wasn't exposed to or groomed in the "Metropolitan sophistication" of the Mumbai born Designer Star kids. Sure she has no fashion sense. Yet she has proved to be a far better actor right out of the gate from her very first movie. Having watched the various stages of the evolution of Bollywood first hand, all I can say is this young lady is the modern day Nutan and Smita Patil rolled in one. Neither of them ever cared to be any style ICON or what have you. They were simple both on and off the screen, yet gave memorable and sensitive performance the likes of which Bollywood will probably never see.

I wish the pseudo intellectual fans like us realize that when the history of Bollywood is recorded the actors will be remembered for the memorable roles they played; and not for how they dressed, or their sex appeal, or their insatiable appetite to be on Page 3, nor their game of revolving beds. Very few of these Star kids in Bollywood will ever amount to anything substantive. They are here today and will be gone and forgotten tomorrow.

I am sorry but your reason for Kangana having not done anything "overly gr8" kinda embodies what my post talked about bollywood fans' attitude towards "outsiders". You are saying she isn't good because

- she isn't the most beautiful person.. - I am sorry but neither are Kareena Kapoor, Konkana Sen (a very overrated thespian let me add), Sonam Kapoor and countless others.

-Kangana doesn't carry off like a star.. so how exactly are Indian stars supposed to carry themselves? By acting over virginal and trying too hard to appear shy and acting like they have 19 centuries moral values? Sorry to burst your bubbles but these star kids are no innocent angels. They are bigger party animals and promiscuous than you might think

- also I didn't think speaking in English was a prerequisite to be in Indian movie industry. We are talking about India where majority are under the poverty level and don't have money to go to a school where they can learn to speak English. So you are saying Bollywood should be restricted to the elite who come from big cities and come from rich families where their parents can send them to good school?

at the end of the day the problems India is facing today is because of those minority upper/middle class people who look down upon anyone who they see as beneath trying to make a name for themselves..

and even people who come from under-privileged backgrounds who have inferiority complexes because they have been brought up to believe that they aren't allowed to dream. Or not having doors that open for them to move ahead in lives. Or even when they do move ahead in lives, people see them as outsiders

TallyHoji isn't she from Dehradoon? If not I stand corrected. You are right, she has a problem with her diction but I think that stems from childhood stammering or some physical oral problem. When she gets some bit of money she should have that corrected. And you are on the button, she has great potential and has a natural flare for playing any part. I have enjoyed all her movies thus far, and been very impressed with her.👏
