Taare.., Welcome release hits roadblock

The release Welcome and Taare Zameen Par was stalled in multiplexes across the city with the distributors of the films demanding higher revenue shares from them.

The movies are running only at the PVR chain of theatres. PVR and Studio 18, the distributors of Taare Zameen Par and Welcome respectively, are demanding higher revenue shares from multiplexes.

While PVR is demanding 50:50 share for the first week of the film's release in Mumbai and other cities, for the second week, the ratio would be 42.5:47.5. In third week, the share would depend upon the film's performance.

"Our demands are justified. The multiplexes paid this share in the past for Om Shanti Om. Our film is equally poised to be a block buster. Why should we be deprived of our rightful share," a Studio 18 source told PTI on condition of anonymity.

Despite repeated attempts, PVR CEO (Film Division), Ashish Saxena, could not be contacted. While Studio 18 refused to budge from its position, a senior official from Aamir Khan Productions said that discussions were on to end the deadlock.
