riya check this! this is wat one person writes abt saawariya!! i feel it is a movie which grows within yu first time yu see yu dnt understand many things bt later it grows within yu check this!i think it is the best interpretation of saawariya!here it is: Ok guys these are my thoughts on Saawariya, Its not exactly a review but what I felt after second viewing, many of the things I never understood in first viewing I got in second viewing. Slb made Rani narrate the story of Saawariya because that was the name given to Raj ( Ranbir) by her and also because otherwise there would have been too much of Ranbir and by this Slb could give the film a fairy tale setting. Now the sets are doused in hues of blue and green because Rani is narrating the story of Raj who is a Saawariya ( meaning Lord Krishna)who gives people what they have yearned for their entire lives. He gives Rani the respect she never had, Zohra the son she longed for etc. Now Saawariya is the story of Raj, all other characters take secondary importance to him. It is a love story alright but not of Raj-Sakina but it is about Raj's innocent love for Sakina and Sakina's innocent love for Imaan. Since Rani is narrating the story, she only knows things which Raj has told her. Now what is shown of Sakina in the film is how Raj had described Sakina to Gulab, who is she, what she does is not important here and Gulab anyway wouldn't know that because Raj had told her nothing about it. This is how she saw Sakina through Raj's eyes. About Imaan, again Rani had never met him, so she knew Imaan only through Raj and Raj knew him through Sakina and interpreted Imaan to be a kind of an illusion, as in Sakina chasing a dream, so that is what Imaan is to Gulab as well, now what he does??, where he goes??, why he returns after a year?? etc maybe Sakina knew but Raj never asked any of this to her, so it wasn't shown. About the Climax,it had to be the way it is because that is all that Gulab knows, about whether Sakina felt anything during the climax, Rani does not know, hence we donot get it as viewers. The screenplay was perfect. It doesn't have a shoot out or car chase or Holi dance every ten minutes, nor do its characters get into fights or arguments with each other every five minutes, nor are there external obstacles placed in the characters' way -- these are probably all the reasons why people keep saying "there is no story." There is plenty of story, and it was very well told. There is an emotional arc to the story, as well as to the characters. What people complain of as "darkness" is really just again the Hollywood style of lighting, which is used to highlight the character's faces and emotions, and to reflect the mood of the story. In contrast, Bollywood lighting is almost always overbright compared to Hollywood films, because they are so intent on showing off the set decorations, the costumes, the jewelery, etc. of the stars, as all these things are looked for and copied by the audience. But Saawariya is a far less commercialized and consumerist oriented film. It is pure art, where everything is subordinate to the story and characters. It was obviously designed as a vehicle for Ranbir, much as KHNPH was designed as Hrithik's vehicle. On the whole Ranbir carried it off well. I also thought Sonam did equally well in the acting department, though she had a smaller character to work with. Far from alternately giggling or crying (as one unkind reviewer put it), she exhibited a range of emotions, and was consistent throughout in her characterization. I never had a doubt about what she was feeling toward Ranbir, so that the ending was no big surprise for me. For now, let me just say that, when SLB said this was a story of innocent love, he was talking of the love felt by Ranbir's character, not anyone else. In a nutshell Saawariya is a film open to interpretation, it is what you make of it.
It doesnt matter how u interpret it...
Actually u did remind me of my Poetry lessons...esp some of the wierdest poems where we were supposed to try and undersatnd the deep meaning in them... (if u Have read the walrus and the carpenter etc..)
the point is It remains the weakest film Of SLB...
you fail to like the story and connect to the characters..
Everything is surreal and u only like it if U r diea hard SLb or already in love with SR...
Its not like ppl dont like tragic endings..
Devdas was a hit...Have a look at the popularity of novel love story.. The point is tragic ending shud be such that it moves u..touches u...
and Saawariya doesnt do so..Not for a second
As for everything blue...and blue being colour of Romance..thats utter nonsense..Picturise lord Krishna there...ITs not just him...It also consists of green kadamb trees, yellow flowers, colourful Radha ji..
Together they constitue eternal romance...So the Theory of SLB is bullshit..His treament has only made the movie monotonous and its a nonsensical excuse on his part ..
hollywood movies use this technique bt to enhance the effect and expressions..here that gets a secondary place
When a normal guy watches a movie, he wants to enjoy it.
feel for the characters...know them like them..
Saawariya fails to do that...HEnce is a badly made movie
AND His statement that we shud appreciate it for being different..
then lets appreciate No smoking first....OOOOOh its so different..
.sorry SLB u arent making a ketchup...that its differntEdited by Ritika2025 - 17 years ago
