Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif plan to have a blast this Diwali. 'Deep Jalao, Khushiya Manao, Aayi Diwali Aayi!' India is shining all thanks to the diyas and lanterns, the rangeeli rangolis, the zari on the saris, the light emitted by fancy firecrackers, the spiritual agni of the pujas... And actors Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif have carried the Diwali torch to Kangaroo land. Shooting for Singh Is Kinng in Australia, the handsome on-screen couple won't miss out on the festivities, and intends to have a blast of a kind on the lovely beaches of The Land Downunder. "I'm not home and am not among the many millions in India on this festive occasion. But I'm as Indian at heart as they are, if not more. My family has joined me in Australia. So we're all going to make this Diwali special anyway," grins Akshay. About celebrations as a child, Akshay says the memories have always been happy ones. "My eyes used to light up then, as they do even now, on hearing the word Diwali. For me, it meant firecrackers, treats and everything good. There are more smiles at this time of the year; filmmakers flock to release their films around Diwali, and they smile the widest as the theatres go house-full by default." And what about son Aarav? "He is brought up like any other child. He looks forward to fire crackers and the usual stuff that excites children." The beautiful Katrina will also join in the celebrations organised by generous producer Vipul Shah. "We are going to have a party," says Vipul, "I've arranged for firework displays on the beach, sumptuous meals and the traditional game of cards. My team is away from family on an important day and I'm not going to let them miss home." Born to a Catholic mother and Muslim father, Katrina confesses that she started celebrating Diwali only three to four years ago. She states, "I love the get-togethers, and the idea of families coming together. I've never understood card games though. I can never figure out how to play them. I hope today I'll be able to understand at least something." Co-actor Kumar, interrupts, "What card games? I'm going to hit the casinos. No card games for me while in Australia!" The Aussies in the unit are quite intrigued with this fanfare and festival of lights. "They are quite amused and participating well in the celebrations. They are having a great time wishing one and all Happy Diwali," we are told. So mates, when in Australia, do as the Indians do, just this Diwali. |
