5 September 2007 Towards the end of last week, Sanjay Dutt finally proposed to girlfriend Manayata, in Mumbai. This came just as he was about to leave for his trip to the Vaishnodevi temple. Obviously, this is the moment that Manayata had been waiting for and she is thrilled
INSIDERS IN the Dutt camp say that Sanjay, out on interim bail right now, doesn't want to put any life decisions on hold; particularly the one to make Manayata his wife. So far, she has been standing by in his life, ever since they met on the sets of Shootout at Lokhandwala. Earlier, there was speculation about where she lived but it soon became clear to all that Manayata was living in Sanjay's apartment as the bahu.
Just before Sanjay went to jail, he apparently made provisions to set her up in a boutique in South Africa, far away from the public eye, in case he didn't return in a hurry. But when he knew that there was hope in an appeal to the Supreme Court for bail, Manayata continued to stay on in Dutt's apartment, with just a solo light in their bedroom where she slept. The house was otherwise in darkness, giving the impression that no one was home, in case Manayata was hounded by the media.
Right now, it is not too clear when the wedding is set for but the question is: just how good is Manayata for Sanjay Dutt?
Earlier, she played the devoted girlfriend, bringing him lunch on the sets, curtailing his drinks and even playing foster mum to Sanjay Dutt's daughter Trishala, when she was in Mumbai on holiday. Manayata was even seen dressed as a newly wed bride by Sanjay's side at the Ash-Abhishek wedding celebrations.
But Trishala doesn't seem to be very impressed. Having developed a relationship of love and respect with her dad over the last few years, she, like any other daughter, wants the right thing for her father. Once she returned to the States, Trishala wrote Sanjay an open letter in The Times of India, stating in it, that she should be the only girl he's concentrating on in his life. A touching plea from a daughter who obviously doesn't think Manayata is right for her father.
Sanjay however, seems too crazy about Manayata to be listening to this. For that matter, even the gentle hints from his friends seem to be falling on deaf ears. Manayata won't leave him alone for even a minute they say and will even follow him into the terrace garden if he steps out of the house.
If Sanjay's friends like Sanjay Gupta and gang want a guys' night out just to have a couple of drinks and discuss guy things, Manayata is firmly fixed at Sanjay Dutt's side. She even attended a pooja at Sanjay Gupta's house, which the latter had when Sanjay D got out of jail. And when producers Ashok Thakeria and Indra Kumar had an exclusive trial of Dhamaal just for Sanju, Manayata came along for the opinion.
Even more recently, Sanju was apparently worried about so many things going wrong in his home. So despite the fact that he's not superstitious, at the insistence of a friend, Sanju invited a Vaastu guy to view his home. The man told him that his bed was in a negative position and should be moved. Apparently, since he sleeps the maximum hours in it, he was said to be drawing in negative energy. But Manayata refuses to move the bed. Sanju's friends who can see bad things happening to him have tried to make him see sense. Even if he doesn't believe in all this, they've asked him to just shift his bed. But Manayata wins again, as she refuses to listen.
Right now, Sanjay is on a temple visiting sojourn and one awaits the news on when he'll fix the wedding date. Looking back a bit, perhaps Richa was the best wife for him. His second marriage to Rhea Pillai was a near disaster. And now there's Manayata. Perhaps Sanjay Dutt has always hungered for the love of a woman. But why does he seem to find it in the wrong places?
