More trouble for Saif's next film

The release of Saif's next film may be delayed after a financier went to court saying he had a stake in the film.

Nehle Pe Dehla would have been Saif's first release after his own release from hospital on Sunday. Co-starring Sanjay Dutt, the film earlier ran into trouble when Dutt refused to publicise it and the producer printed posters without the Munnabhai star in them. Now financier Samdarshi Jaiswal says the film's producer Mahendra Dhariwal owes him money that should be repaid before the film is released.

Jaiswal had financed Rs 45 lakh for Dhariwal's Mithun starrer Dada in 1997. He claims a signed agreement awarded him repayment with a 2.5% interest plus share in the profits of Dada. Jaiswal claims, "By 2002 the amount due to me was Rs.1.1 crore, and Dhariwal expressed his inability to pay me at the time. We got into another deal then, as he was releasing Maa Tujhe Salaam. The deal was that he wouldn't release his then in-production films, Nehle Pe Dehla and Madhur Bhandarkar's Jail unless he cleared all my dues. Till 2006 he repaid me nothing. The amount is now Rs 3 crore. He issued me a cheque for that amount which bounced. I had no option left but take him to court. He has now been booked under section 406 and 420 of the Indian Penal Code." When contacted Dhariwal said, "I have not received a copy of the court order, but I have moved the Mumbai High Court to prevent any move to stop the release of the film. I have already faced a lot of problems since the film has begun. I have lost count of how many times we had to postpone its release. We have already dispatched around 470 prints of Nehle Pe Dehla all over India and abroad before this court order was issued. Now since the prints of the film have been delivered it is beyond recall. I am in a helpless situation." Directed by David Dhawan's long time associate Ajay Chandok, the film also stars Bipasha Basu and Kim Sharma. Shooting for the film began in late 2001 and was completed in late 2006. The comedy revolves around two crooks in a bid to cheat a hotel manager (Shakti Kapoor) join his hotel as waiters. They become accidental witness of his murder by his three close associates. To nab the real killers, the duo then parades the dead body of the manager around as if he is alive. This leads to one crazy situation after another.
