What about the business of the movie??

The Google says the budget for the movies is 50 crores.

It is still 20 crores of short of breaking even, if the budget figure is true (though I doubt the budget figure because the film doesn't have an exotic vibe to it)..

Generally, a producer would make the budget less expensive than more expensive to get a better verdict. I also suppose that the movie needed a lot of VFX and has also mass-scenes with many people to pay. Inflating the budget would be for taxes or to 'wash' black money...then the verdict would be rather a 'minor matter'...

They've been raving about this 'political thriller' even before it got to 20 crore. smiley4

Just watched it (in theatre) and I'll say it's brilliantly made. The acting is superb, screenplay is gripping, they kept the violence/action minimal which is good.

Yes, dekhna. I was too young (<5 yo) when the incident happened but I have some faint memories of the excessive police everywhere. I've heard the first hand experiences of the people who were in the middle of the riots that happened subsequently but this movie solely focuses on the train incident and the best part about it being them mentioning the names of 59 people who were burned alive. Although most people remain unidentified, it is worth noting.

The movie is more like a docu-drama with some comic one liners and punches.

The way it shows the truth about journalism - how narratives are crafted and truth is twisted - fantastic. It's a good reminder to take everything you see with a pinch of salt and critically analyse things instead of consuming things as is.

Vikrant is a fantastic actor!!

according to Sacnilk's India Net Collection:

Week 1 Collection ₹ 11.5 Cr + Week 2 Collection ₹ 10.5 Cr +

Day 15 [3rd Friday] ₹ 2.1 Cr
Day 16 [3rd Saturday] ₹ 1.9 Cr
Total₹ 26 Cr

The Sabarmati Report had been an only Hindi movie with no overseas release, btw. The budget - reportedly - is 50 cr.
