Any one find "Dil Se" movie disappointing? - My first watch review

I recently watched this movie for the first time and was expecting a great movie based on internet reviews (a movie which flopped but was actually very good).

Color me disappointed.

I did not understand why exactly SRK's character was so attracted or in love with Manisha's character that he decided to destroy himself for her.

He saw her ONCE in a train station and became obsessed - started aggressive advances even though she clearly rejected him. Then after he got beat up, still did not back off.

On the other hand, just because she was a victim, we cannot overlook Manisha's actions - she used SRK's character and his entire family for her agenda. Granted she is a terrorist, but still, it left me feeling very bitter toward her,

SRK's character after understanding that Manisha's character was using him, did not take a stand for himself or his family. Instead, he, in turn, started using Preity's character.

Ugh.

The ending was loose too. Okay, SRK prevented Manisha from bombing the Rajpath, but what about the other terrorists who were present there (Sabyasachi Chakraborty, Mita Vashist and the others)? Were they identified and arrested? How did the government stop them from further plans? Anyone else could be the next suicide bomber.

What about SRK Mom? She was in the police station answering for him as police thought SRK was a terrorist too.

No closure at all.

It had some good patches - acting was great, songs were terrific and Preity's character was refreshing, but the main premise - why SRK was so obsessed with Manisha - was not clear to me.

Also, if the terrorist organization was ULFA which is based on Assam, then why were they mentioning Ladakh a couple of times?

Anyone else did not like this film?

I don't remember. I watched it when I was only 13 i.e. in 1998 when it released.

But I didn't like it back then, that I can recall.

If you're genuinely disappointed, what could anyone write to explain why this love story has a special place in the own heart?

Your answer lies in your question itself.....Obsession is beyond logic....that is why it was not love....it was obsession...

Sorry I did not get you. I was expecting a great love story - I knew of death spoiler and terrorist angle beforehand- but was disappointed. There was some passion yes, hut what triggered it. He saw her once - nothing to explain that devotion IMO.

However if you liked it you can put your perspective - i may come around to understanding your side.

Why though 😕? I did not get what was so special about her smiley36 that he sacrificed everything including his life.

I did like the chemistry between SRK and Manisha.

I didn't hate the movie but was underwhelmed.

I was expecting a movie like Swades or Paheli but Dil Se did not live up to my expectations.

To me, Dil Se, is a love story (and the title tells it)...with certain Indian love-story tropes, okay, but still embedded in a story that showcased a certain part of harm that mankind is doing to itself.

My focus had been more on the girl's dilemma starting with what she lived in her youth, then the indoctrination, then the suicide task which made me feel helpless...watching her denying a decision for love and life.

At this point, I had watched - in a span of two weekends - my first Hindi movies ever (original versions with English subtitles)... four SRK movies (Mohabbatein, MHN, K3G and VZ) and Aamir's Lagaan...I really wondered that I got introduced to Hindi Cinema throughout so many movies with the same lead actor.

So, in my fifth movie with him, it had been SRK in a quite different role as a political reporter, falling in love at first sight and not only wanting to know more about this girl but also feeling that something had damaged her. The intensity with which he wanted her to acknowledge her own love for him and change her path deeply touched me as I could feel also the helplessness of his character to influence a situation he initially didn't understand.

I liked the part with Preity very much as she played a modern Indian women who made clear that she didn't want this arranged marriage, but not in a hurting way by disrespecting the arranged partner. They respected each other on the same level and had genuine symathy for each other.

The end really pained me although I already had felt that their love story was doomed ...I emotionally was involved in the story (it's like being in the space the movie creates).

After this movie, I wanted to know more about the leading actor and googled him...

I never understood the hype around this movie.Plus the acting was so bad from all of them.Earlier I used to get shocked when anyone praised the movie..not anymore though.Still for me it sucked.
