Exactly, people are getting offended for just about everything now. And frankly, was this even an example of fat-shaming? Buggu was trying to get an outfit that fits the aunty. How was it shaming her if he wants her to wear a size that fits her. If anything, one could argue that it is everyone else fat shaming her by lying about her weight and pretending she can fit into a skinnier outfit as if admitting that her wearing larger clothes makes her less of a person. Buggu wanting her to wear her proper size means he supports her weight and he never says anything out of disrespect or to tease and taunt her.

I find it hilarious that Animal of all films is being treated like the messiah with all its problematic and dangerous content, but Dunki is getting scolded for trivial matters like these which were not even meant to be offensive.

Bhaaaiii , mtlb what even?? smiley24 Are u sarcastic? We all know what that scene projected or even bald man scene. Animal was never this problametic movie, and it was atleast entertaining thats why i took it as piece of fiction and forgot it and even vanga was open about it so i knew what it is going to be. Atleast vanga and ranbir dont have image of family man

Who would have made anyone understand in 90s that fat shaming was wrong ? I am from small town as shown in Dunki movie, and not just fat shaming, there were lots of ‘shaming’ which we were never taught as wrong back then. What are we even expecting ?

Hirani put what he could i.e. in terms of the shop owner throwing him out of the job for this comment. What more was wanted from this scene ?

I’d say we can leave the ignorant criticisms aside. For most of it it’s coming from deliberate hatred-spreading agendas, for rest they have not even watched the movie and is relying on half-baked reviews. In the movie there wasn’t a thing (unlike 3 Idiots Chatur’s stage scene) which’d offend ANYONE !

I wanted to discuss the national anthem gig. Found it extremely satirical in nature though it might not have the intention of the director. But when one is drowned in nationalism, his entire samaan and stuffs got stolen right in front of his eyes and he couldn’t move a finger. smiley37 I perceived it as irony and smart satire. How’d you find that.

Agreed. They are not even clever about their hate-mongering and just make themselves look like tone-deaf morons. And the most laughable are the ones claiming this film has oversexualized scenes that are not family friendly, like what? Animal had nudity and sex scenes and children were being brought to watch that and nobody batted an eye so why even go to the effort of making up lies about stripteases being present in Dunki.

Yes, very good point about the anthem and it being a smart satire. There's a big difference between patriotism and nationalism and I've noticed that many countries like India and America fail to learn the difference between the two.

Posted my review in other thread, but wanted to discuss with someone and see if they also found the movie absolutely ridiculous.

-------------------

I watched this movie last night and honestly, I don't know what they were trying to show here. This movie was all over the place. Not that I look for logic in movies, but this movie was heights of illogical nonsense put together in a sub-standard screenplay and presented to us as some Hirani masterpiece.

Second half was much better and tolerable than first half as it had some really good emotional scenes and some some of those scenes make you want to weep as well. So yeah, kudos to them on that aspect.

Now coming to the atrocious first half, WHAT THE HELL WERE THEY SMOKING? When interval came, I had made up my mind that even that crapfest Pathan was better than his movie. The jokes were dated, the screenplay and writing was dumb and the monologues, gosh💀💀💀

-------------Some rant on scenes-----------------

Apart from Vicky's story, no other character had a reason strong enough to go through Dunki where survival chance is less than 25%. Either they should have established that these characters were fooled into dunkying or their Backstories should have been more hard hitting. Like wtf is "My mom has to wear a pant to work everyday and that is why I am ready to get killed " 💀💀💀💀

Also, did anyone here really laugh at those classroom scenes , drunk SRK scene and that scene where he goes to Sardar guy's mom and tells a fake story about his marriage? The ONLY good scene before interval was their interview scene and Vicky's emotional scene.

Post interval, there were many great individual scenes like the Dunki journey, reality of immigrants in UK, and then post leap scenes when they come back to India.

The worst scene of the movie was courtroom scene which made absolutely NO FREAKING SENSE. What was that monologue man? You don't want an asylum then just say no. Why would a judge grant you illegal immigration just based on your emotional speech? That speech would have made sense had he said it to his friends only. Also, why do they want to insert patriotism and nationalism for absolutely no reason in a movie where is in NOT NEEDED?

Also, they made those police officers in Jeddah look like absolute clowns. The twist was good but the scene was so so so lame. 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

The last scene was BRILLIANT and brought tears to my eyes. Both SRK and Tapsee did great there. Also, when they meet at the airport, it was a complete rip off of Veer Zara courtroom scene but nicely done with good music.

Overall 2.5/5 (out of this 2 is for second half and 0.5 for first half)

DUNKI REVIEW

I had pretty low expectations looking at the mixed reviews and was worried that I was walking into another Jab Tak Hai Jaan level trauma. God I was wrong and I thank the lord for not listening to other people’s negative reviews, otherwise I would’ve missed out on a gem of a film. Some hated the film, some liked it, and some are sitting on the fence. However, I LOVED it. Hirani has a magical way of story-telling which is very appealing to me. He brings a mix of light-heartedness and emotional elements that makes you relate to the situation.

The first half was all sunshine and happiness. You get to experience the positive vibes and humorous interactions similar to Three Idiots. That’s already a major plus because I loved Three Idiots. The whole cinema was laughing and you’ll especially have a good chuckle over the english testing scene where everyone is trying to pass the student visa exam. I LOVE LIGHT HEARTED AND FUN SHIT MAN. I miss this Bollywood where movies are actually made to tell a story that you can relate to and enjoy.

During the intermission, I was wondering whether the movie was now about to take a downfall because I was really enjoying the film. I say this because I had mentally prepared myself to be disappointed. My concerns were unnecessary because when I tell you I cried, maaate I cried. Dunki really brings light to immigration issues and the horrors people go through with the false promise of a better life. Immigrants living in shared accomodation with 10 other people, working low paying jobs, and sending majority of their income back to their families at home. It made me emotional as I know a lot of students from overseas who are on a visa, studying full-time, working as a cleaner or low paying wages, living in overcrowded shared accommodation, sending money back to their families, and visiting the doctor because they’re depressed and extremely home-sick. The dark side of their lives is rarely spoken, so I’m glad Hirani brought this issue on-screen.

SRK was pure love as Hardy Singh. I’ve always died for Aman Mathur and a part of me is still dead since his demise but I’m now ready to mentally remarry again and all because Hardy Singh was the most selfless, the most loving, and the most sexiest character ever. It’s like Aman Mathur + Veer Pratab Singh in one body. For the love of God, someone please tell SRK to spare us ladies. He’s been creating unrealistic expectations of love since the 90s. Now if someone proposes, I’ll be like BUT R U HARDY SINGH? 🙃 WILL YOU LOVE ME THE WAY HARDY SINGH LOVED MANU? 🙂 Cheers to never getting married folks.

This is the SRK I’ve been dying to see since Chak De India. If you’re worried that majority of the film will be a beard-less version of him then fikerrr not because he’ll be bearded very soon into the film. He looks insanely attractive with the beard and as an old man. There’s a scene in the film (Spoiler alert: The group is stopped by some disgusting soldiers in Iran and a certain thing happens that pisses SRK off. But when I tell you that an angry and protective SRK has to be the most hottest thing ever known to mankind, then just know that foam was coming out of my mouth).

The other cast members pretty much nailed it. Vicky was amazing in his extended cameo. He’s a brilliant actor. The rest did well in their respective roles. Now let’s talk about Tapasee. I don’t know how I feel about her acting. She’s good in some scenes but she sucks at crying. At times I couldn’t tell if she was crying or smiling. When Vicky or SRK was upset, the sad emotions were perfectly expressed through their eyes. Tapasee tried to scrunch up her face during the sad scenes (kudos for crying coz that’s a start) but her eyes were dead and her mouth was positioned in a smile.

Look at the below picture for reference. This is how she looks when she’s happy and sad lmfao.

Image

Now I’m by no means an expert but unless you have dimples that need to be shown off (because then you have every legal right) then there’s no reason why you should smile while crying. I mean if your mouth isn’t angled like an octagon (as below) then are you really crying tho? 🤣

Image

IN CONCLUSION

Please watch the film and make your own judgement but don’t write it off without giving it a chance. I had prepared myself to be disappointed but I ended up walking out in tears, and madly in love with a fictional character.
