If she really wants to be rescued why couldn't she approach the police and get her husband arrested instead of being dependent on Sukhi? Instead of committing suicide she could have just called the police. Unlike others, I didn't find Sukhi's reason that reasonable.

In fact I found the other three people's reason of moving to UK to earn money more reasonable.

Also, why did Hardy join the IELTS classes if his intention was only to help Manu get a visa and not to move to UK? I also found his reason that we didn't get visa using valid ways so we'll go using illegal ways weird. Isn't that some form of gaddari towards his country? It was strange to see an Army man advising others to use illegal ways and then that same person is whitewashed by showing that he refused to say his life is in danger in India so he is a true and selfless patriot. Also, the movie's title should have been something on the lines of their struggles in London other than Dunki because Dunki scenes ended quite faster than I expected.

Agree about Sukhi's reason not reasonable. Suicide is never the answer. When he started walking and knew what about to come and as soon as he started pouring and light fire.. instantly my thought went to his parents. What grief he gave them! His ex-gf as you said could have gone to police though we don't know her circumstances. Sometimes abused person take whatever route they find comfort in and for her Sukhi was comfort.

Please tell how others reasons were reasonable except Manu as per you? As didn't find them reasonable at all.

Buggu wanted to go cos his mom was wearing pant. Most ridiculous reason. In fact when he came back after so many years first time he saw her again she was in pants and his expression are same which means he did no progress at all. He should have started working instead of opting for dunki route to help his household. Instead he lost his mother's savings.

Same with Balli .. he was not able to hear sewing machine noise. Then do some work to get household going and don't be in the house when mom working in the house with sewing machine.. go out and work.

Hardy joined class cos he didn't want class person to duped his friends. That was said in the movie. Lol but he didn't do anything about it 🤣 Professor was teaching nothing.

Agree to Hardy changing his mind to go dunki way too quickly which was surprising but only possible reason would be high emotions as it was after sukhi's death.

SRK was awesome in the movie. I feel his performance in this movie was far far better than his performances in Pathan and Jawan. The songs were beautiful. I enjoyed listened to all of them. Vicky Kaushal as Sukhi was great too. I wanted to see more of him in the movie. Like most members here, I liked the second half more than the first half because that's where the story moves. The movie's message was really good. It focused on lot of issues, coaching institutes taking advantage of people's vulnerable situations and fooling them. Poor people's beliefs that going abroad will solve all problems as they can earn more money than India so in their desperation, they migrate using painful, illegal and dangerous ways and either end up losing their lives or face even more difficulties and struggles in the country they migrated. As Balli said, he earns more money in London even as a beggar but that life is not worth leaving one's own country and family. The 3 characters, Mannu, Balli and Buggu earned lot of money in their 25 years of stay in London but could never gain respect and mental peace in that country. The message was really good. If you want to move to another country, get a valid visa and make sure you have a good decent job before you move. If you don't get visa nor a decent job look for other opportunities in India itself rather than being desperate to go there and live even a more difficult and struggling life.

Overall the movie was really nice though not as good as Hirani's previous movies like 3 Idiots, PK, Munnabhai etc. This movie is doing really well here in USA. I was not getting tickets since last week and finally today I got them. NRIs love this movie.

Sukhi wasn't thinking clearly, he didn't even know the process of Visa, how would he know what would happen once he gets there? It was 1995

Internet and information wasn't available and they couldn't get Visa as they didn't have a degree which means they weren't even educated. Most likely metric pass

The guy committed suicide, it wasn't a loophole but the character wasn't emotionally equipped to handle anything in his life.

All made a mistake in their youth and ended up ruining their lives.

I see the questioning as a good approach to discussion...reading them now, I can just align with Nora. The movie made clear that all those youngsters fell into the trap of false promises, imaginating a better life (the famous saying of the pastures elsewhere)... none of the persons who profited from this imagination had been interested in them apart from exploiting them (I guess Boman Irani's character only changed his behaviour because of Hardy's influence after his deportation).

Except of Hardy, the youngsters hadn't a mature thinking...Hardy had been motivated because of his love for Manu, his adventurous and rebellious mind and the emotional shock because of Sukhi and latter's death wish...I think that he himself had only heard about others using this way without really knowing about the outcome...that, he learned only in London... I don't see his decision as "whitewashing" but as a consequence of what he witnessed and his former profession and he may have hoped that the other three would follow his move.

In the other thread, I came across about a tweet posting a teacher's opinion...

Knowing SRK having a knack for teaching and Hirani liking to teach people through his movies, I don't wonder that this movie has a very distinctive educational touch.

Personally, I could imagine to show this movie in classes to have discussions after the watch on different subjects... (as I already wrote, I find this movie interesting because of the different layers and topics to ponder about).

Calling Balli as beggar was not right. He was showing his art and earning money. He was not going to people at public places and just asking for money. We can called them small time artists.

So many do such kind of thing across Europe. Some sing, some play an instrument. Some do magic tricks, some paint themselves like Balli did in various forms and stand still. Standing still without moving a bit all day is not easy, takes lot of will power and stamina. They are putting their effort into it. So such people are definitely not beggars.

Surprisingly saw one person doing same like Balli in India some months back at a prominent location in a major city.

Thanks for your replies guys. The only reason I found others reasons for leaving India reasonable because they all wanted a better life as they thought they can earn more money in London than in India whereas Sukhi just wanted to rescue his ex gf from her husband which wasn't as easy as he thought. His reason was noble and selfless but not 'a piece of cake' as he assumed.

I feel Hardy's decision to take the Dunki route was impulsive due to Sukhi's untimely death and impractical and I am glad they showed him regretting his decision after he saw Balli's condition. He wanted to go back to India as he thought life there still can be better than living in terrible conditions, running from police and sometimes sleeping in cemeteries.

I went to watch it last night. First time I haven’t seen a SRK film on the first day! Oh well, the showing was full to my surprise. No seats available. Good job i booked well in Advance

The first half was good, it had its funny moments. Loved the interview scenes. The 2nd half was better imo. it was a lot more serious and the comedy was toned down.

SRK was great. His best performance this year bar none. Hell id say this was his best performance since Chak De India (or at least Fan) also, he looked so much better in the 2nd half without the clean shave and VFX to make him look younger.

Tapsee was great too. Her scenes were impactful. Loved when she stuck up for Hardy in class.

Vicky was excellent in his cameo. I think we all knew he was dying though right?

The rest of the cast played their roles perfectly.

The story was nice. It showed the harsh reality of what people have to do to illegally moving to places like London. And the harsh reality of living as an illegal immigrant

The ending was sad, the airport scene was a direct copy of Veer Zaara though. The proposal and Tapsee dying scene smiley28 it reminded me of Kal ho na ho and Veer zara. Not seen this type of emotion in a SRK film since then.

Overall I enjoyed it.

I give it a 7/10

It doesn’t have repeat value like Pathaan and especially Jawan, but SRK’s performance here blows them two out of the water

Well, actually, we got prepared to an early death...we got informed the same time Hardy got informed...and (again) contrary to another movie SRK did, Hardy was ready to marry Manu even knowing she could die every minute. His expression at the end shows that he was also mourning an opportunity in this life they didn't get.

But - if one believes in it - they will get together in a certain way in the next life to - maybe - fulfill their karma. So, the present life did now focus on other things as Manu would continue to live - in Hardy's heart and mind...with her determination and energy.

That's not the point...
