Maybe they fit when they were younger but not when they got older. What you want or need in life in your late teens/early twenties isn't the same in your mid - late thirties. Some couples grow together over the years and others apart. If they didn't reconnect romantically while she was living with him for months during lock down it's never going to happen. It's good that they can still be friends but it's been 11 years apart - almost as long as their marriage.

That and I don't think he could ever go back to living with her interior decorating.
