Shouting, hooting and whistling in cinema halls.

If you live in India, you definitely would have experienced shouting, hooting and whistling in cinema halls while watching a popular movie. Its just a part of our "culture".

This type of hero worshipping is on another level in south India. People throw coins and notes in the air and dance in front of the screen. It happens in North India as well, but its rare and only for Salman and SRK movies.

Fans take pride in doing this. Audience enjoys it or at least are used to it. For me personally, it does enhance the movie watching experience, even if I can't do such stupidity myself.😆

But is it actually acceptable? Laughing in a funny scene is justified. Cheering when its an important scene or dialogue is understandable. But Indian audience gets too hyped for anything. It doesn't even make sense. You're not in a rock concert. Its a movie. The actors can't hear you. So for what are you shouting? You want to express your enjoyment for the movie, but you're not watching the movie all alone. You're in a public space. Other people have also paid to watch the film, including those who want to watch the movie in peace. They have came to watch the film, not your shouting, hooting and whistling. You're ruining their movie watching experience.

Most importantly, its not legal. If these people complain, obviously no one will listen because we've normalized this. But they still have full right to complain, and there's really no excuse for such type of behaviour.

Came across this on YouTube. Theatre reaction on Pokiri re-release. Its common for movies of south superstars.

Can anyone even watch the movie with such a crowd?

Previously it only used to happen with Indian films with superstars, specifically massy movies. Then MCU movies also start getting such response. Now even anime fans behave like this.

This video is from India as expected. I watched Suzume in theatres and the reaction was same there as well.

For me it doesn't enhance my movie watching experience.

Occasionally some clapping, laughing or spontaneous comments can indeed make it more enjoyable but not more than that.

Really depends upon where you are watching and the type of crowd. For example, if you are watching in a multiplex in tier 3 cities, chances of hooligans shouting and whistling at every other scene is less, since mostly families or couples or a group of friends come to watch and they don’t engage in all that stuff much, occasionally they would enjoy but overall the atmosphere is peaceful.I myself enjoy when people occasionally clap or laugh or even whistle sometimes, because then it becomes a collective experience of watching something entertaining, but if you are watching at those local theatres which are also quite old, the crowd would be slightly different and they would often hoot and clap at such scenes, yeah sometimes it becomes irritating but overall I don’t mind, may be also because I don’t go there much. But I would tell you my personal experience, if you have watched a movie at Raj Mandir, Jaipur, it’s quite an old film theatre with a single screen, therefore all kinds of crowd comes there and hooting/clapping happens at almost all the scenes 😆 I have quite enjoyed it because I don’t get to experience such things often 😆

Siting an example... Went to watch brahmastra ((meko free me dikhayi gyi thi isliye gye the.. Dont judge me plz🤣))

The crowd there was so engaged in laughing and trolling all the shiva jaaps and other things that it actually turned out to be an entertaining and wholesome experience... I guess I wouldn't have survived that movie otherwise. 😆

So yeah... All this laughing, hooting if done in moderation and light manner actually enhances the community viewing experience of a movie for me.

Having said that I would not like to be a part of crowd..who just screams at every scene...who brings firecrackers.. do jaaps for their stars.. dancing in the theatres... And most importantly I literally despise if I am sitting beside a person who has come for revision and reciting dialogues😡

@red, where did you see that?

About national anthem, they still do it in some cinema halls. Last month I went to watch Harry Potter movies and they were playing the national anthem before the movie.

When I watched Endgame, No Way Home, Suzume in multiplexes like PVR, the over enthusiatic fans were acting the same way you expect single screen crowd to behave for a massy superstar film.

However, I would admit that when I watched KGF 2 in a single screen, the crowd was more loud in an already loud movie. But multiplex crowd is no less. If the movie is part of a popular franchise or stars a superstar , the crowd goes berserk if you're watching it on first day or first weekend.

I don't complain about it. But if you think about people who don't like it and want to watch movies without any disturbance, then their complaints are completely valid.

It worked out for you because it was a bad movie.😆

Similar thing happened with me when I went to watch The Conjuring 2. A group of friends were sitting beside us and making random jokes whenever there was a scary scene. They turned a horror movie into comedy with their jokes and constant chatter. Me and my friend were grateful because we were already scared to watch the film. But later I realized they ruined the movie for us.
