They had a buy one get one ticket free deal all weekend and partially on Monday. Somebody still had to pay for those free tickets, more than likely the producers. So is that still a success?

It is a low budget movie which means it was sold to distributors for a low price too. In that regard it probably is a success as I’m sure exhibitors and distributors are making a profit here. And the buy one get one free definitely drove people to the theaters and gave it a good WOM which might help it throughout the week. But once again, is it a success if the producers had to buy some of the tickets themselves?

i depends some people lower the price of tickets like they did for Bramashtra. They might not be making as much of a profit but they still made a profit. they recovered almost 50% of the budget. As long as the buy one get one free ticket still has them making a profit the producers do not have to pay for it. Similarly when you buy items at the store. Just because one is coming free does not mean they did not make a profit. They convinced you to buy one which otherwise might not have sold.

The margin of the profit might be lower. But the revenue shows the film is in line to make a profit in terms of budget of 50 crore.

as long as the theatres are ok with it. They do not owe that money to anyone. Even the theatres probably know this way they are making more business then they otherwise would.

Free tickets to the audience doesn’t mean the exhibitors just handed those tickets for free. It means the money for those tickets came from somewhere else. This deal definitely increased the footfalls for the movie, gave it a positive WOM, and if the trend continues throughout the week whomever paid for those extra tickets will probably recover their money and make a profit. But calling it a success at this point, right before the BOGO deal finishes today is more of a PR and marketing tactic IMO, specially when the move throughout the weekend was to call it the first success of the year for a mid-movie and so on.

It has and that’s great. And once again, if the trend continues it might recover all of it. I just feel that the success celebrations were a bit premature from the media.
