I am wondering though how do you know so much. Pretty impressive.
I remember this movie.

It's part of a trilogy which the Canadian-Indian director Deepa Metha made (Fire, Earth, Water - all three very good).
Such an impactful movie (The Ice-Candy Man is the book, the movie is based on)...and of course, it's disturbing (like it was also Hey Ram to me)...partition was such a mess relative to humanity.
India had sent Earth also to the Oscars (Aamir's first one, I think), but it didn't made it to the nominations for best foreign film.
I also would recommend Earth (+ both the other movies) but they are in no way mainstream.
Until now I liked very much all Deepa Metha movies I've watched (she made also 'light' ones 😉)
Earth ran into a lot of problems. My personal favorite of the trilogy is Fire. It's fantastic
I wish Amir would have done DARR as he was par excellence and way too natural in the negative roles in this one and in RAAKH which was just his second movie and he got a nomination for the best actor for a NATIONAL AWARD in 1989.
He would have just made the role of Darr a true master piece compared to the unbearable hamming of SRK in it... kkkkiran.... 😂
Oh wow didn’t know there were more too. The good thing about this movie was that it was still entertaining even though it was a sad movie. I don’t like watching sad movies if they are boring and all. This movie was more of like Ranjhana. It was dark and sad but very captivating to watch. Loved Aamir’s performance. This was my first time becoming fan of his acting after watching his performance and the female actress was good too. Just found out the music was by A.R. Rahman. No wonder the music was goodOriginally posted by: Clochette

Aamir was indeed great in the movie. SRK was also great in Daar. Can’t imagine anyone else playing these roles other than them.Originally posted by: Tanya1991

Now it makes me even more realize why Khans are superstars and still ruling for decades. They gave such powerful performances and movies right in the beginning of their careers. All three Khans debut movies were hit. The new actors don’t even compare. No wonder none of them have been able to overthrown Khans yet.
The film made me vomit as a kid when I first saw it and those violent killings during partition.
I agree it is Aamir's career best performance and most subtle performance till date. The change in heart is reflected through change of expression in his eyes. Last scene is spine chilling and so is the scene where train full of dead bodies arrives and Aamir finds raped, mutilated bodies of own sisters there.
Also the scene which made me vomit was the one in which little Lenny recreates murder by tearing her soft toy same way as a man was killed in front of her.
When I realised what had happened...I just vomitted and spilled my food which I was eating while watching this film.
OMG I don’t remember all that. Glad I don’t. I just remembered it was a dark movie and remember it for Aamir’s performance, the music and the actress’s acting and chemistry with AamirOriginally posted by: atominis
