Phir bhi dil hai hindustani, I loved that movie as a kid and the chemistry between Srk and Juhi was adorable. No movie with Srk and Juhi together should ever be a flop!

⬇️ Didn’t even have to think twice. 💞 I wish Motwane would direct more movies. He is the only BW director who has a 💯 rating with me. I haven’t disliked any of his films. On the contrary, Udaan and Lootera are in my top 10 Hindi movies of all time.

ANDAAZ APNA APNA : Although ibosnetwork.com and many film trade journals called it a SEMI HIT as it did 7.25 crore NET business over an investment of 2.5 crores in 1994, but I guess there were huge expectations from this film, that's why collecting really good mainly from big cities & metros and loosing distributors shares from many smaller cities and towns generated the general agreed upon-perception in public as if it was an outright flop, which it was not.

Those who saw the film in it's original run in 1994 usually tells that no promotion is not the issue, becuse audience was well aware and was eagerly awaiting for it's release, and due to the anxious waiting, not just the expectations became sky high but as per the producers who lacked finances the two main songs of the films that included it's title song "Andaaz apna apna (Shola Shola toh bhadkay)" were never even shooted as audiences were waiting for these two songs which they heard for last one year before it's release on its audio tapes.

But the main reason which the audience (my elders) who have seen it in it's original run on VHS in Pakistan informs about it's lackluster business is that, that although AAA got it's cult status later on due to still an amazing comedy, but when it was originally released it didn't met all of their expectations because the many scenes that were shot later on having Salman with shorter hair didn't jelled way with rest of the movie, felt choppy (the whole paresh rawal identity disclosure, his kidnapping etc) and the last 20 minutes of the adda scenes felt sub standard compared to rest of the movie which was shot 2 years ago from 1991 till 1992 and was excellent compared to the late shot sequences, that's the feedback I got from most of the people who have seen it in 1994 in it's original run.

-----------------------------

ANJAAM : Amazing thriller with Madhuri's career best performerance imo, but too dark and depressing with loads of blood & gore never gave the audience any breather, another personal favorite of mine from the year 1994.

--------------------------

ANDAAZ: No idea if it's just a coincidence or some synchronization for some reason but the 3rd flop as well, which happened to be my favorite as well, is from the year 1994. This was an outright superb entertainment from start till the end, much better than most of the super hits of David Dhawan, but I guess the extremely vulgar songs both lyrics and execution wise made the families to stay away from the theaters, there were huge protests and uproar of women from various ngos against it's songs which depicted females as some sex objects in very lewd ways, as there were news about this back then in the tabloids.

-----------------------------

RULES, PYAR KA SUPERHIT FORMULA. : What an entertaining breath of fresh air, a delightful breezy movie that sinked due to no face value and hardly any promotions.

--------------------------------

SAMAY, WHEN TIME STRIKES: A very tight and wonderful suspense thriller which will hook you throughout it's duration, best work of Sushmita Sen, no idea why it got flopped.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

VADH : Nana Patekar's one from the early 2000's. A great murder mystery with water tight screenplay and jaw dropping climax & suspense, again no idea why it got flopped as Nana was in his best form those days at boxoffice and also it was an era of horror and suspense thriller movies post Raaz.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

SAAYA : Again no idea why it got flopped as it was released when even mediocre horror suspense films were getting hit at BO post the blockbuster success of Raaz. SAAYA was not only a horror movie, but had its heart at the right place with an emotional heart wrenching story and was so well executed.

--------------------------

A VERY SPECIAL MENTION **GUZAARISH** : My most favorite one of SLB, although extremely tragic, but an absolute poetry in motion, nonetheless.

---------------------------

In short boxoffice is truly unpredictable most of the times.

Such an underrated film. It is so true too.

I was just coming here to write this!!! This movie has all my heart. And the climax brought tears to my eyes. The OST is literal diamond. ❤️

from the movies already mentioned:

the Motwane movies (including his others directed by him)

the 3 SRK movies: Anjaam (very good Madhuri!), PBDHH, Swades

the movie I watched because of Tanuja (Rules: PKSF)

Amitji's Agnepaath

Shirish Kundar's only good movie: Jaaneman (why did he pitch it against Don???!!!)

the Kundan Shah movie JBDY (such an intelligent movie!)

as I don't bother about box office, I mostly know about flops through discussing movies (or when it is specifically mentioned like now)...and I know the BOI of SRK's movies.

Personally, I think, neither Asoka nor Fan nor Dil Se deserved to flop.

and I also have a special liking for Billu (because of Irrfan), JHMS and ZERO (but I understand why the domestic interest was rather low)

Rocket Singh was also a flop? It's one of the very good Ranbir movies!

After the superhit Tridev the next from RAJIV RAI was eagerly awaited when Vishwatma was announced it was most looked forward movie

But when it released in 1992 it did not perform at the level of Tridev

Superhit music including saat samundar paar and divya bharti introduction in bollywood also did not help

Today this movie is repeatedly shown on zee channels and remains favorite coz of divya and music
