Jiah Khan's acting skills.

This thread is not about her death or Sooraj Pancholi. Its about her acting skills and her very short career.

Jiah Khan in Nishabd was really good and promising for a debutante. She showed a lot of confidence and looked drop dead gorgeous. Had a really strong screen presence and she even showed her range with this one performance, because the character she portrayed was quite complex. She doesn't even seem like a debutante in the movie. Looked like an actress with a bit of experience. Doesn't get overshadowed or looked like she was intimidated by Big B.

Then why she didn't get more work after this movie? She was lead actress material. She did two more films Ghajini and Housefull where she played a supporting role. Her last movie Housefull released in 2010 and she died in 2013. Why she didn't get more movies with lead roles when she showed so much potential in her debut? I think her debut got overshadowed by Deepika and Sonam who also debuted in the same year as her. Jiah actually deserved all the Best Debut awards that year, there was no competition if we strictly go by acting performance. But obviously Deepika won everywhere for debuting in an SRK movie and the hype she created.

Her mom was a film actress from the 80s. She only did those 3 films

DP was actually good in om shanti Om, let’s not say that she got the awards only for starring opposite SRK

DP couldn't even dub for herself..half of the performance comes from dialouge delivery which someone else did for her coz she was that poor..it wasn't even fair to nominate her let alone her winning a Filmfare..i mean have you ever seen an actor winning an Oscar or an Emmy or a Golden Globe where they couldn't even dub for themselves..just ridiculous..

she is from south and it was her first movie. I would give her that leverage. I have had teachers and I have got friends who have lived their entire lives in North India and still have an extremely strong accent

Give her all the leverage..just don't give her awards for a performance she couldn't even dub for..

I feel FF should scrap all candidates from nominations (in future) if they couldn't even dub for themselves..that alone shows their calibre..National Awards have that rule..they do not nominate anyone who couldn't dub for himself..and i believe so do the rest of these awards like Oscars, Emmy etc

IMO Jiah was considered too westernised and ahead for her times.

Giving her award for Nishabd would be controversial since even promos of that film were panned and Amitabh was bashed for doing such a film, RGV was called tharki.

Jiah was sl*t shamed for doing that film or dressing the way she did.

She was seen as sex symbol. First time I am seeing someone praise her acting skill.

She never got opportunities to do anything beyond that sex symbol act and rumours of being Aamir's half sister and looking exactly like his dad Tahir Hussain marred her career further. She would try to dodge that question but media would not leave her.

Honestly I do not think she had good language skill or voice modulation.
