Superstar banne ke liye film ka aacha hona bhi zaroori he....where are nice films today? Or hit music engaging stories and good direction which catapulted the khans go stardom...songs made today are forgettable and songs have the most repeat value out of all...

Yes. It also broke records for winning most awards for a single Indian film in one year and made it to Limca Book of Records.

So much craze for an ordinary film purely because audience was carried away seeing a fresh new face and sort of all rounder like Hrithik who was good looking, fit, danced well, did action, had screen presence and could look both rich and poor convincingly.

Insane craze and truly exemplified what overnight sensation means.

That year everyone knew HR would win all best debut awards next year and it was he who performed in all shows, concerts and awards.

Of course a single person can make a film hit if he or she is amazing. KNPH is a totally ordinary film but it became super hit thanks to songs and Hrithik who became overnight sensation on day of its release and all magazines featured him on cover next month and he became most searched Indian online in 2000 itself beating Aishwarya Rai who held top spot earlier.

KNPH is one of rare films to be hit in January. Otherwise a dull month for BO. And HR was so successful that people said he would overtake Khans and he was instantly declared new superstar since Khan films except Mohabbatein did not do that well that year.

HR replaced Aamir no less in Coke ads. Coke renewed contract with Aamir only after Lagaan. Otherwise Hrithik was taken by Coke. Hrithik craze was both at BO and ad world, fan world, among kids and oldies alike.

Legit the greatest debut in last 25 years.

Dude KNPH was Rakesh Roshan's film who was one of the Biggest Director at that time. So that helped the film success a lot. Though Ranbir was flop Actor since day one, can't be compared with Hrithik.

Bhansali was also top director.

Ranbir was never as much of an overnight craze nor had acceptance or appeal among masses like Hrithik inspired.

Even his personal life and affairs with all top actresses could never make him top star.

To become a superstar (or mega star), it needs more than talent and successful movies...

1 - One has to build a (relatable) image (which can change or being extended throughout the work and private life)...

2 - one has to prove - through the own work - the dedication one has for the acting/entertaining work one does

3 - one has to have the gift of connecting with people through the own persona and thus creating a loyal fan community and/or vivid interest for the person one may be.

The bigger the fan following (lovers + non-lovers), the greater the interest (in the image + the person), the more intense the connect (through the work and public appearances) = the higher the status as a star.
