This argument can be applied to even filmfare awards. 😆

Although it's not entirely lobbying, RRR has organic fans in the states and other parts of the world. Marketing could only put you on the map, the rest is story, direction, acting, and everything else making it a success.

Haven't watched it nor think highly of it but what RRR managed to achieve on it's own is nothing short of a fairytale! Slumdog millionaire which got two Indians accolades at global stage was not even an Indian movie but RRR achieved the recognition entirely on its own is incredible feat 👏

I think Rajamouli getting nom in the directors' category would carry more weight than RRR getting it for best picture, given that he already won at NYFCC. The movie also won original score at Boston society of film critics.

Yay, hats off to ssr for working on his craft and Vision, making films he believes in and capitalizing on his success and building it brick by brick and forging ahead, hope he gets a best director Oscar nom, Naatu naatu will get one and hopefully win too

It was also on the NBR list which has so far featured only one foreign language movie Roma

This. If marketing only was the requirement, a kjo type will market the heck out of it. There are lots of producers in india with money who can recruit a marketing agency. But even a good marketing agency in west won’t pick up a film which is not worth it.
The problem is there were probably movies which could have struck a chord but didn’t have the budget, which is why lunchbox is spoken of as it had the buzz and was marketed, aamir did it for lagaan. You need the connect and then marketing helps
Same as why BB2 worked pan india, they marketed it well but had a great product too which connected

This is huge. I am happy for SS Rajamouli. I think he deserves this given the amount of hard work, vision and honesty he puts in his movies. One can tell.

(I thought RRR was good but never thought it would be this popular).

Carolina from Where the Crawdads Sing made me bawl my eyes out on a flight. I only realized it was a Taylor Swift song when I googled it after the flight landed. That says a lot
