Internet is a whole new world according to me. Fun & helpful, yes! Toxic & destructive. Absolutely YES!

On one hand it's true that it's what you make of it but then the exact thing ruins your experience. For example : you aren't just checking out about your favourite but the very thing end up recommending you something or the other related to your favourite & people's view which might makes your mood sour. So, you do end up consuming the toxic part even if you intended not to & engaging in things which would take a lot of your time, might affect your mental health, too.

When we follow a celeb, specially when we are really invest, if we see them getting harassed or antis throwing nasty remarks because it's fun for them, it's not too easy to hold back. Sometimes it starts affecting on a personal level, even when you know you can't do anything about such people, their mentality or remarks.

That being said, it has a good side because often you are able to help the innocents, whom others try to pull down by being vocal.

The cancel culture, fit for that, trolls, the edgy gang of online for whom everything is fun & game until it's on then are the reason why internet experience isn't always a mood booster.

As for being a SNS addictive, if you are into casual discussion, you can always choose & limit your time online. Initially it's hard bit not impossible.

One of my batchmate considers herself as a celebrity for having over 10k followers. Most of her followers are bots.

I agree with the folks who say that the internet is what you make of it.

People like blaming technology, but way back in the day humans raped and pillaged for timepass. Surely, some punk-ass trolling is a major improvement? Statistically, violent crime rates have actually dropped since the 80s and 90s. The only difference with technology is that we hear about all the violent crime everywhere. Oh, and the internet has just helped us see that all humans are shitty in their special way.

But it is nice to not be addicted or dependent on technology. The internet is not going to let you soak in the sun, dance in the rain, or catch a snowflake on your tongue. It's not going to whip the wind in your hair or catch the sand in your feet. Go outside sometimes. Its got some magical things technology can't do yet.

This is specific I guess- during and after covid I spent most of my time online and I lost a lot of my filters. Not in some "Hey , so who likes anal sex?" way. But I got used to the idea of being able to speak about things I would be careful about bringing up offline usually . When you spend those many months online you sort of forget being open can have consequences offline. It took me a while to retrain myself to avoid talking about politics while talking to neighbours or people at work,or to keep it brief. Getting too comfortable with anonymity can mess with your real world social skills.
