Drishyam is surprise package working due to massive wom .

PS1 was sold only at 10 cr in the North, released in 550 screens and grossed over 30 crores there. It is a bonafide hit. May not have been a blockbuster but was a hit for sure... that too with zero promotions, zero known faces barring Aishwarya Rai.

OK. Then Brahmastra was a flop in North America. 😆 Doesn't matter if it wasn't made for this region and wasn't marketed to the audience. It was a flop here.

PS 1 wasn't marketed to north India. At all. It still made more than Brahmastra which actually was marketed all over India.

But somehow, Brahmastra is hyped as this super success when it's the other way around.

Then why are you comparing a regional movie with Brahmastra? Except south Indians nobody knows or cares about that movie. PS1 isn't Pushpa or Kgf .

Brahmastra is a PAN India success.

That is the whole point. The regional movie made more than the pan-Indian movie without the hype. So why is the lower-earning-despite-the-higher-hype movie being hailed?

Not sure if the people who keep calling Brahmastra a PAN-Indian success don't realize they're actually making the OP's point for her. Brahmastra was marketed all over India and earned less than a movie which was marketed to only one quarter of India.

Yet Brahmastra is being hyped as this high earner.

Don't forget this huge budget Brahmastra had, it had 460 crore as its budget compared to PS1 150 crore compared to Drishyam 2 budget of 50 crore. Both lattar movies actually had huge profit compared to its budget. Meanwhile Brahmastra wouldn't even be in the top 3 highest grossing movie this year in India but somehow it is hailed at this huge success. I am showing the propgranda the PR Karan used is actually incredible to be honest.

Why Brahmastra is a failure?

Kjo has been trying hard to make Alia a mainstream, heroine of Big budget films..he announced 3 films ..kalank.Takht and Brahmastra.

RK too wanted to become a larger than life/superhero film ,like other superstars.

The film failed both these stars.

Fans must promote their stars, their work. Why defend a film, which has not performed to expectations for various reasons.Alia fans should rage against Ayan.RK should be really angry with him for throwing around names of other stars for the sequel, while the film was still running.Has the films done wonders for your favorites? If not? Why defend it?

Alia's fans are a happy bunch, they got plenty to be cheerful about, many good movies, good acting and even the one movie with a terrible flowerpot role has become a good source of meme material, so all in all barely anything to rage against. 😎

You know what the best part is that after all the negativity over the years for Brahmastra, it still managed to fill the theatres

It is still a movie with MAX buzz this year. Right from the first trailer till today people are constantly talking about it

People actually bought high-priced tickets for a movie with mixed reviews. Not only in the first week. But even in its third week. 2 weeks after the review was out

That is where Brahmastra truly won. The support that the general cinema-going audience gave her

Nobody can deny that. It's not propaganda. It's ground-level reality

Ab koi kuch bhi kahe . Movie toh chal gayi . Mere liye bAs itna hi kaafi haa

Drishyam and PS1 are both great movies.

All the 3 movies jo mujhe pasand this Chal gayi 🥳

Brahmastra is a failure. How exactly?

A movie that managed to sell high priced tickets even in its third week, despite its not so good review can never be termed a failure

Brahmastra is a blockbuster, no doubt. But Karan did inflate the numbers. PS1 is miles ahead of Brahmastra in content, acting and characterization. Calling it a costume drama is ridiculous. It was fully intended to be a Tamil film. They cast all the top Tamil actors for the main roles(barring Aish). No Bollywood cameos, item numbers. It was a matter of pride for them to present a beloved classic to the Tamil audience -both in India and abroad. And the film did do well in Kerala.

What Brahmastra got right :

Massive promotions and got the right wing in its pocket with its claims to present Hindu mythology to the world in an Avengers style film catered particularly for a young audience.Excellent trailer and VFX.All the critics were excited and rooting for a Bollywood film to finally be 'The' blockbuster that the industry badly needed

Where Brahmastra failed:

Ayan was too inexperienced to handle such a massive project. He didn't know what to do with the massive stars handed over to him. The world had to be built up right from the basic building blocks. The writers failed to live up to the expectation. As always the love story overwhelmed the rest of the plot.

What PS1 got right

Full audience support from Tamils. There is no anti-Tamil movie brigade calling for the death of PS1. Experienced director who knew how to work within the budget and actually use the stars handed over to him. Readymade story with 3 dimensional characters completely at his service. He just had to decide what to pick and discard and what to change. Love story didn't take over the plot.

What PS1 got wrong

1.In an effort to be secretive and mysterious, PS1 didn't show it to the critics beforehand. With Vikram Vedha releasing next day, the critics postponed it to the next day. In that interval all those trashy youtubers with clickbait reviews posted negative reviews.

2.Then there was the online war between Tamil and Telugu fanboys.

3.PS1 is non-linear (even when a linear timeline is needed)and everything is not spoonfed to the audience. The audience get to know only as much as Vanthiyathevan the protagonist knows about these Royal siblings. He's a foreigner in Chola kingdom and doesn't know all the backstories or political groups.

4.Nobody enjoys being told that they are too unintelligent to appreciate a masterpiece.
