I watched LSC. It tried to copy FG but didn't work. FG neatly integrated history into the story, but LSC did not seem to understand its audience.

1. American movie audience is not majorly under 30 as is the Indian audience. 30+ people might have enjoyed the romp through history. To tell the teens and 20-somethings the story of Operation Blue Star and the riots makes little sense. It doesn't feature in their consciousness.

2. The opening with SRK made sense. They should've continued with popular history mixed a bit with civic history because popular history is what draws audience. Similar to Om Shanti Om where young Barjatya is taking notes.

3. It is too slow. I know FG was a leisurely ride, but LSC seemed plain boring.

4. Aamir just looked too photoshopped. It was cringe-inducing. Some physical realities of age are undeniable. He can and should continue to play the leading man. But FGS, in age-appropriate roles!

5. I enjoyed the Kareena portions. She actually passed for a college student. At her age! But she's not enough of a box office draw for the under 30s any longer.

I could prob cite more reasons for failure.

Anyway, Aamir's *spending time with family* is about as real as American politicians *spending time with family.*

Aamir definitely invests too much of himself in his movies. The failure of his past two movies seems to have mentally affected him deeply. A break is well deserved. Most working professionals need a career break at some point to reevaluate their next steps.

Another factor is that Aamir (like Salman and SRK) is on the cusp of his career. He is no longer the right fit for a leading man (in the traditional sense) and he has not crystallized what kind of roles will he take in the next phase of his career as a senior actor. The break will help him crystallize that.

Salman Khan seems to want to double down on the type of action masala flicks that made him famous. SRK had a long hiatus and is coming back with Pathan and Jawan and seems to be dropping his lover boy personal for action masala. Saif was the smartest of the 90s Khans who has been experimenting with roles for a while, some successful and some not so successful, but that means Saif can morph into any role.

Aamir divorced his first wife Reena Dutta in 2002 and took a break from movies for 4 years. While being divorced, he made one movie Mangal Pandey and it was a Flop. After this movie he married Kiran.

Now he again got divorced with his second wife Kiran in 2021. He made one movie LSC which also flopped after his second divorce. Now again taking a break from movies. Get ready for his third marriage with Fatima before he makes a comeback in 2025.

On a serious note, with this Aamir is done as a conventional hero. Whenever he makes a comeback, he would definitely be back as a character actor, doing only age appropriate roles even if they are leads like Big B. He anyway kind of shifted to age appropriate roles with Dangal, but that was more of a one-off thing.

It is upto to be seen if his stardom would be intact whenever he makes the comeback, or the audience would have moved on from him. He did make Dangal an ATBB playing an oldie, but can't say if he can do that on a regular basis. On second thoughts, its also a possibility he never makes a comeback to acting and completely shifts to direction.

Just because he doesn't make public display of his affection towards his family that doesn't mean he doesn't love or care his family.

He is going through a bad phase in his personal life. His mother had a heart attack last month.

Some of the comments in this thread makes me think have people lost empathy towards others these days?

Aamir always takes breaks after failures or disasters or personal life crisis.

Remember break after divorce with Reena or Kiran's miscarriage and death of his dad?

He has a disturbed family life thanks to issues with wives, dad, brother and his daughter has anxiety disorder too. He himself often takes therapy from his own cousin sister who is a professional psychotherapist.

I am surprised with his family issues and own volatile temperamental nature how he managed to have such a hugely successful career and long career, living on own terms (surviving without media, banning awards, not working with big banners, controversies with co stars or directors or political controversies, no PR).

In that sense I find him weirdly inspiring and a curious case of how he managed to succeed despite such odds and own moody, perfectionist nature and inability to handle failure or crisis or multi tasking.

I always thought he was not too interested in acting or stardom. He seems to be a repressed filmmaker and more content working behind camera. I also feel he wants to remain in shadows and let Junaid come to screen without pressure of comparisons with dad. Everyone has seen how Abhishek is still suffering due to comparisons to his dad who is still going strong. Perhaps they want to step back to save own kids from comparisons and being weighed down by own stardom.

I feel Aamir will be more into direction or writing or production from hereon and reduce acting. Those days of being competitive like 3 Idiots or Ghajini or D3, Dangal, PK are gone.

He also seems to be want to be with Azad and help him absorb shock of his and Kiran's divorce as he regrets not being much with Junaid and Ira when he divorced Reena and blames his absence for Ira's mental health issues.

Good for him.

I miss his films and acting. I used to feel bad when he took breaks. But it is clear he does not want to be part of the race anymore. I guess his viewers and fans have also learnt by now that it is futile to expect much from him. Especially after he has personal issues or a professional failure. Back to back disasters like TOH and LSC seem to have perturbed him.

Aamir is extremely attached to his mom. He fears losing her it seems. He took break earlier also to help her cope with death of his dad. He is more of tending towards atheism himself yet he took his mom for Hajj to fulfil her wish.

Sorry to know she had heart attack. It is natural he wants to be with her and also be with Azad after divorce from Kiran. Besides making some headspace in mind of audience for Junaid.
