I watched LSC. It tried to copy FG but didn't work. FG neatly integrated history into the story, but LSC did not seem to understand its audience.
1. American movie audience is not majorly under 30 as is the Indian audience. 30+ people might have enjoyed the romp through history. To tell the teens and 20-somethings the story of Operation Blue Star and the riots makes little sense. It doesn't feature in their consciousness.
2. The opening with SRK made sense. They should've continued with popular history mixed a bit with civic history because popular history is what draws audience. Similar to Om Shanti Om where young Barjatya is taking notes.
3. It is too slow. I know FG was a leisurely ride, but LSC seemed plain boring.
4. Aamir just looked too photoshopped. It was cringe-inducing. Some physical realities of age are undeniable. He can and should continue to play the leading man. But FGS, in age-appropriate roles!
5. I enjoyed the Kareena portions. She actually passed for a college student. At her age! But she's not enough of a box office draw for the under 30s any longer.
I could prob cite more reasons for failure.
Anyway, Aamir's *spending time with family* is about as real as American politicians *spending time with family.*
