yes, the telugu devdas is the best, it is said that even dilip kumar said there is only one devdas and that is ANR

https://www.thehindu.com/todays-paper/tp-national/tp-andhrapradesh/anrs-devadas-still-rings-a-bell-in-west-bengal/article5608212.ece

the dilip kumar version is a classic but the srk one is slb gloss and gaudy sets added to the story, nothing original except that screeching, overacting by kiron kher still gives me nightmares, the only scene which stands out is the climax which when I went back and watched the dilip kumar version found out is entirely copied from it

unfortunately most audience nowadays dont know these classics and consider the mediocrity churned out nowadays as great

I hope OTT revives, colorises old classics in all languages

I thought I was the only one who always found Kirron Kherr a little OTT 😆

I see Anushka as Devsena in Bahubali and Jejamma in Arundhati. I have never seen her as just Anushka Shetty.

This quality is missing in top stars of Bollywood.

I knew about Prabhas and Anushka .Did not know about Tamannaah . You’re right. They did suit their characters to the T.

Anushka is gorgeous, I saw her for the first time in Bahubali and boy was she good! She definitely looked the part and did full justice to her character, they should cast her for such roles in BW as well.

Not just Bahubali, it is interesting whether any filmmaker in Hindi cinema is equipped to make larger than life movies with mythological overtones like it.

IMO one of the major reasons the film clicked is that it presented themes/ stock characters/ archetypes that are known to us who are familiar with tales from the Ramayana and Mahabharata from our childhood.

For eg, Devsena in Bahubali reminds us of Draupadi (the vow to kill the person responsible for her humiliation) + Sita (being abducted by a person who desired her, keeping her faith up in exile).

Amarendra is like Lord Ram in his steadfastness to duty, Bhallaldeva and his father remind us of the Kauravas in their thirst to seize the throne from the rightful cousin(s).

Even in RRR the two main characters were heavily fashioned and even imaginatively represented as brothers at the same time, as well as Lord Rama and Hanuman.

I think Rajamouli has repeatedly said how much he has been influenced by our epics/ legends/ Amar Chitra Katha. He also fantastically weaves them into his own movies by playing with our familiarity with these epics. I really don't see this quality in any other filmmaker today, be it in Bollywood or even Tamil cinema that I am closely acquainted with.

Bahubali is just not my cup of tea. Bollywood can tell a love story like no other whether it be historical or modern. By the same token, the love story takes centre stage even when it's not necessary.Jodhaa Akbar is the best at not letting the characters down in the process of telling a love story between Royals. I could weep at what Bhansali did with Devdas and Bajirao. A lot of whining and melodrama when the hero lose their sweetheart or someone threatens to take her away. Contrast it with Aditya Karikalan from PS-1 who goes on with his duty even if he indulges in alcohol and bloodshed to forget her.He remains loyal to her even though he was the Crown Prince and polygamy was permissible.

I feel so out of place when I see praising Bahubali like the best thing since sliced bread. I have watched the series but thought it was decent..nothing earth shattering good

This BW bashing has become too much now. Agree, BW is lacking in many things, it has its flaws, but that doesn't mean it's trash or inferior to South films. So what if BW is more about gloss and glamour ..it is what made people love the films in the first place..it provided escapism..fantasy. People loved watching the make believe worlds created in BW films...not everything has to always be REAL..go watch documentaries then.

Btw Brahmastra is an attempt at something totally different.. where's the appreciation for that? Yes it had a cringey love story, yes it had other flaws, but it still made a mark and found the audience 's love.

Currently BW is going through a rough patch. Every industry does. If someone tells me that South has always continuously produced great films since the inception of film industry then I am sorry but there's no bigger joke than this. I come across so many dubbed South films which are completely trash. Now BW is on the back burner toh sab behti ganga mein haath dho ke bash Karo BW ko and glorify the other side (selectively). Mannn, this is getting too much really.

Let there be a Rajamouli who makes Bahubali, RRR, Magadheera, Eega. Let there also be a Karan Johar who gives us glamourous films which are entertaining to watch. Let there be an SLB who can paint pictures like nobody's business. Let there be a Raju Hirani who makes entertaining social comedies . These all can coexist, you know!

Devdas is still fine because it is the way sarat Chandra wrote the character, it is astonishing why it became so cult but it is precisely a guy who is egoistic and drowns himself in alcohol for love and hurt pride, not everybody’s cup of tea but it is that

Bajirao”s focus on only love story was a travesty, it could have been much more
