Sharaabi is about a neglected son who has no mom and whose rich dad has no time for him so he loses himself in alcohol. It is about shallow lives of the rich and famous.

Laawaris is about rich guys sleeping around and dumping their illegitimate kids who suffer later in life.

His films became repetitive but were about marginalised sections of society suffering due to rich, potlical class or callous family and society. This is why poorest masses liked his films and saw themselves in his characters.

Rajinikanth remade these films too and became star of masses as dispossessed section saw themselves in these films.

These films had some issue at core. And were not mere action or masala films. Indian cinema became quite elitist from 90s focusing on super rich lot or elite NRIs.

I am talking about films like Wanted or Pushpa or Bodyguard and Ready. Not Great Indian kitchen or Bahubali, Magadheera etc which are indeed good films.

I think when most of us talk about crap South remakes we refer to masala films or crap like Arjun Reddy with misogyny or graphic violence.

Not content like Bahubali series.

Well... how is it south cinema's fault if BW audience relates mainly to the movies which in our region caters to the lowest common denominator?

Who is blaming South cinema here? No need to take offense on behalf of entire industry when term South remakes is usually used for crap like Ready or Wanted and not whole of content South creates.

I personally think success of Pushpa shows how regressive we are. Cheap film it was.

It’s south Indian cinema btw not south cinema, though there is no such thing because they are 4 different, fully well established, independent , blockbuster churning industries to be precise.

South Indian or South are same when we talk of Indian cinema anyway. We all know we are not discussing foreign cinema here.

And if South Indians can use blanket term like North for diverse cinemas and regions in North then we sure can also use term South broadly for all 4 industries there.

Oh, c'mon. Substitute the post I initially quoted with Punjabi style. Amitabh beating up 10 goons at the one time wasn't the same style? Amitabh or Rishi eve-teasing their heroines was not crass? Govinda's Lal Dupatte Waali? And the post called this SOUTH style? Why not simply call it loud or crass?

And that, too, in the presence of thought-provoking Bollywood cinema from the 90s and 2000s like KKHH, HAHK, KNPH, Chori Chori Chupke Chupke.

The answer lies in your query!

Post 2010 was all south style action and dialogue era.

Before there was heavy focus on romance and comedy balanced with other aspects and all the actors were fun to remember the movies.

Now the movies since 2010 are all like chewing gums.

I agree with a recent statement by Lucky Ali if anyone knows.

I have never heard anyone even mention North cinema. Where did you hear that? We only talk about BW and that’s because they call themselves that. There is just no south cinema anywhere so why would you talk about something that is not even there?

I never saw Amitabh doing antics like villains flying with one kick. 🤣

Or cigarette flying and landing in his mouth.

Nor do I remember cheap dialogues in Amitabh films except Mard.

Or Amitabh stalking heroines in all films and showing it as love.

South Indian films have stalking as staple and an art. And funny nonsense of villains flying in air with one kick.

I like Jai Bhim type stuff they make though. But not their masala films.

Most south Indians know the difference between Bollywood and other north Indian movie sectors. For a lot of north Indians, there is a giant blob called south Indian cinema.

Why would you pretend the bigotry doesn't exist?
