I think the point I’m trying to make, which is more of an assumption is that Karan didn’t stand by Shershah in the way the movie deserved.

Even before 83, Udham released there was a flood of articles about how their roles are challenging, how the actors are working so hard to get the mannerisms right, that they are pushing themselves physically etc.

Maybe positive publicity worked more than the clout Karan has?

That is possible, but then it was obvious from the trailer that Shershah was a great movie. I’m sure KJo must have seen more than the trailer. Unless it was a marketing decision. Ranveer and Vicky were always known as good actor so praising them in advance was believable. Sid wasn’t so praising him might have become a turn off. Does that make sense?

A lot of people feel Ranveer delivered a stellar performance because he nailed Kapil Ji’s mannerisms. tbf you could see Ranveer’s hard work in some scenes.

But acc to me an actor deserves to be awarded when they’re able to connect with the audience and have them root for you. And Sid nailed that aspect.

I actually think if Alia loses for Gangu it will benefit her career more. Not sure if her and KJO are smart enough to know that though.

Also award shows are so lame now, look at the turnout. Basically only the winners show up. Earlier it used to be a grand celebration, almost everyone from the industry used to attend and genuinely be happy for others. I even remember seeing Kareena, Sara etc before they came in movies. It’s nice to see people with their families. Now it’s a complete gong show

So I actually don't like this. From the perspective of the Shershaah team, it's a nice gesture.

But it also gives off pitying vibes towards Sid. KJo's last line indirectly (& inadvertently) highlights that Sid didn't actually win the best actor. And anyone who's been a runner up knows that just being nominated isn't the same as taking the trophy. If I was Sid, I'd feel awkward tbh

I would say there were an equal amount of people (if not more) rooting for Vicky. A fair amount of people rooting for Ranveer too. But the argument coming from Sid fans almost seemed like a pity to me. They literally said because he is a mediocre actor let's reward him for being able to give one good performance in his life. I wonder if Sid did not have his good looks would he have as many fans? Would he have had as many people rooting for him?

He has done action, comedy, romance, he's played a villain, he has worked in modern and historical films, he has done a biopic. He hasn't only worked with slb, he's worked with rohit shetty, zoya, kabir Khan, maneesh sharma, vikram Aditya motwane, he's going to work with karan johar and South director shankar. Ranveer has worked with established directors and debutant directors, he hasn't played it safe by just working in one genre.

I never really was a ranveer fan, more of a rkdp, and felt shahid deserved awards for kabir Singh and not ranveer for gully boy, and felt shahid was given a raw deal by slb, rs and dp in padmavat but I saw his earlier film lootera, and was floored by his performance and that movie. he has really been quite diverse in his choices and has been so successful because of this. haven't seen 83 but am sure ranveer is quite good in it.

Well, Sid didn’t win. His loss or Ranveer’s win wasn’t a subtle up for debate thing where people might not have talked about it had KJo not mentioned it. It’s the Filmfare awards and it always gets talked about and debated no matter what. This year was no different. Hours before KJo even posted that social media was buzzing about Sid not getting the award, even from some verified accounts.

I found Kjo’s post as very supportive. He starts by saying it was Sid who brought Shershah to Dharma, talks about Shershah winning best picture, and then ties it together by saying that’s a victory for Sid as well as it was his movie all the way.

No Sid fan has said that. It was a few neutrals who said this might be Sid’s only chance for an award.

First of all no fan of any actor calls their favorite mediocre 😆. Second of all Sid fans don’t think this was his only shot at being nominated or winning. Before Shershah most of IF declared him over and done, and now we are discussing whether he was robbed of his Filmfare. All it takes is one good film to turn everything around for anyone. And if he can have one good film in Shershah he can have it with another script too, and he will.

Well what neutral people have to say normally has more merit. I am sure no Sid fan will admit it. I am still convinced Sid had more fans because of his good looks and not talent.

Let’s see. My prediction is unless jealousy and Bollywood insider politics comes in the way there is nothing stopping Vicky Kaushal from the rising. He has actual exceptional talent. Not just ok ok over exaggerated talent like people like Ranbir.

I mean if Sid can prove that this one performance wasn’t just a fluke for him and can continue to give more great performances. Then there is nothing stopping me from me rooting for him as well. I root for genuine talent, hard work and merit. Not a strict insiders or outsiders. Or even talent when good scripts have been served to them on a platter. Which is why I really really admire Vicky because he is both a combination of extreme talent and tremendous hard work. He gives me hope I can achieve what I want if I work hard and I am competent.

Maybe it was just a lack of opportunities for Sidharth. As Kjo wasn’t working as hard to get him good scripts as he was for Alia, Varun or Jhanvi. The fact that he had to bring Shershah to Dharma productions itself is a statement to how Dharma productions might have been treating him compared to insiders. But looking at his entire body of work as a whole. I am still convinced that Shershah was a fluke. If he can prove me wrong I will openly state it here. You can mark my word s.

p.s. I also still feel if it wasn’t for his good looks he wouldn’t have has many fans rooting for him. Once again if he can prove me wrong I will proudly admit my fault here.
