As someone who is openly and actively part of the LGBT community (I've even worked in organisations catering to their/our needs in my last job), so I'd like to express my point of view.

I understand your frustration M.Wheeler... But for as long as I can remember, Lord_Voldermort has been a supporter of Gay/LGBT rights on the forum. They have always educated and shut-down other members when they express bigotry. I staunchly remember this. Therefore I don't think they were being homophobic themselves.

It is a very fine line between what is considered acceptable and what is offensive sometimes, due to the circumstances. Sometimes the only was is to judge on a case-by-case basis, taking everything into account. And therefore I do not class LV's comment as homophobia.

Other people though, mocking Ayan or Ranbir for not "coming out" about their alleged relationship are in fact offensive in my opinion.

Seriously.....its like the white people chirping in the BLM...that white lives matter too.....no one mocks heterosexuality....we all know that...

Of course when homosexuality is used as an insult or to mock some one it is mocking the LGBTQ community...its like Aunty being used to mock a person for her age and then someone quips....oh Aunty is not an abuse ...of course even the mildest word becomes an abuse when the INTENTION is to insult...it is all about the INTENTION....we are in 2022.....and there is a community that is still being hounded and mocked for who they are...I have said this before....the least we can do is not encourage those who are mocking them...

Very well put 👏

I’m bi, my best friend is straight. We work together and we spent at least 12-14hrs together each day. That doesn’t mean we are romantically linked together. This kind of lgbtq+ jokes seems normal to others…but for us it’s very offensive.. and they sugarcoat it as “joke”

It was made specifically about the person Deepika based on how everyone has perceived her to be. Same with Ayan. No one is mocking the LGBTQ community or Ayan for being gay. People are making jokes at Ayan’s expense specifically because it’s long been accepted as an open secret that he’s in love with Ranbir.

It has become a new trend among Ranbir fans here to interpret any mention of his equation with Ayan as some kind of a homophobic attack. I’m curious as to whether this just a “let me defend my favorite” tactic or some sort of projection on their part.

There are a whole lot of things wrong with whatever you said. That being said, just because a lot of people doing it, it doesn't make them right.

I am confused...

There were jokes like this on Salman when Katrina got married to Vicky, There were jokes like this on Deepika/Katrina during Ranbir's wedding too so I am not offended by this post but Isn't it problematic to assume that someone is homosexual, just because they spend some time with their friends?

None is assuming that Ayan and Ranbir are homosexual/Bisexual out of their love for them, it is being done to mock them for it...that's homophobic

Defending gay rights in the past doesn't make someone immune from being homophobic in this instance.

Gay people are also people, at the end of the day. U people are the ones treating them as some rarefied commodities instead of people. By trying to escalate them into some 'special' community you are doing a disservice to the entire community.

I would say this post is completely free of prejudice or trying to mock anyone's sexuality.

It is simply stating a fact that Ayan would be heartbroken because of this marriage.

You are completely missing the point . What you are talking about is an ideal world where gay people have the same right and respect as heterosexual person .

To make jokes about them without providing with respect that is disservice to their community . The day this society learns to the latter the former can be accepted

On one hand, a lot of these jokes are intended to mock homosexuality

But if making fun of ONE gay man for being hung up on someone is considered making fun of an entire community, that's a very dour attitude.

If we were as a society mature enough about homosexuality...then making fun of Ayan being hung over Ranbir would be the same as making fun of Deepika being hung over Ranbir....but its not true....forget about the conservative east...even the west is not open about homosexuality and a lot of inner jokes and mockery is made.....if we are unsure of something then the best way is to avoid it so that we are not hurting a whole community in the process...

*These people*

LGBTQ are not from Mars. They're human like the rest of us. Same virtues and same moral failings. Some are great, most are decent most of the time, some are bad. Like heterosexuals.

And yeah, 10% of men are supposed to be gay on average. Which would mean there are about 70 million gay men in India and about the same number of lesbians. They are as Indian, as Hindu/muslim/christian/sikh/atheist, as rich/poor/middle class, as smart/dumb/lazy/hardworking as Indians who are straight

Right. And *these people* was not about passive-aggressive otherizing.

In case you seriously didn't understand:

"These Indians* are so...

"These black men" are so...

"These lower-caste women" are so...

Try to complete any of those sentences without feeling like a bigot.

Ayan and Ranbir have been linked for ages, in fact it is Ranbir's longest enduring link-up through his relationships with various women. So to say that Ayan must be sad to see Ranbir officially become someone else's... what's there to take offense here?

I know that you don't have any malice...that is the reason for my first comment....but you cannot throw the first stone at some one in joke thinking that there are people who might start throwing stones seriously and hurt a person...

yes gays and lesbians are absolutely normal people.....but does are society treat them as normal? Do we have the same marriage rights for them...do they not face mockery and even violence at times.....I mean how can anyone in their right minds say that the LGBTQ community is the same as anyone else when it comes to social acceptance......so no we have to think twice before making a joke on them...some may be strong enough to take the joke...but most are not.
