That's inaccurate. 83 released when another wave of Covid was going up. That it wouldn't have succeeded even without Covid is another matter.

Let's also not forget SLB, who was credited for Ranveer's hits. Also, Alia's Sadak and that other costume drama with Varun and Madhuri which fell flat. Those can be compared with Ramleela and the Rohit Shetty movie.

Alia is a crowd puller, but posts like this thread will create a lot of negativity toward her just like what happened with Deepika. Alia's being made out to be this perfect actress - she's not. The best among her generation - no, she's not. I can name at least 2 from Kerala who are miles ahead, and I'm sure there are others in other Indian industries. On par with Madhuri and Rekha in dance expressions - Alia is nowhere even close! Bigger star - while conveniently ignoring SLB, who was given credit for the DP/RS hits.

Alia is good actress, the best only among her gen of A-listers in only Bollywood. Somehow, the rest of that small group happen to be terrible, but that doesn't make Alia superlative in any way, shape, or form. She's just better than them and has miles to go.

People are so conveniently forgetting the freaking director, “the SLB” I mean that guy is coming off of three consecutive major successes.. not raining on Alia’s parade, but every time the same hyperbole, and then people sigh n complain about the so-called a dearth of good technicians or writers.. it’s so tiring🤷🏻‍♀️

SLB is a brand himself. If you want to compare Alia's Gangubai to a Ranveer's movie, at least compare it with one he did with SLB. As much as I agree that Alia has solid star power, Gangubai numbers aren't the right way to prove it. Cause Gangubai involves SLB too.

When 83 was "flopping", this very same forum discussed on length how it was a boring movie made only for the older generation & hence how surely it won't find audience. Now that we want to diss its actor, it suddenly became a "massy" movie, did it? 😆 83's reason for being flop was its humongous budget though. Otherwise it did decent business amidst the pandemic (100 crores+ if I remember correctly).

People complaining about SLB are conveniently ignoring that 83 had backing of Kapil Dev fans as well.

I mean these are the same people who give entire credit of MSD biopic's box office success to Dhoni but forget that Kapil Dev is no less of a legend either.

Deepika's Cocktail opened at 10CR, back in 2012, 10 years ago.

Deepika's Chappak, which is a bad movie apparently, earned 4CR, Alia's best is Raazi which is 7 crore. So Deepika's WORST and Alia's BEST, is only difference of 3 crores. (Gangu numbers is largely for SLB)

People calling Alia a bigger star on the basis of Gangubai should remember Kalank and Sadak.

Kalank opening was 18 Crores. The movie was rejected because it was crap but the opening was good. Sadak 2 was OTT release.

And Sadak still didn't get any draw even on OTT where people could watch for free😆. Yeah, they have rankings even if no cash numbers. That should tell you about Alia's star power.

Kalank failed massively. Star power means pulling the movie ahead, too, not just opening. That's why Salman is a star. That's why SRK and Aamir are still stars despite their flops because their flop movies earn more than some people's hits.
