It isn’t 50% occupancy everywhere with the cinemas shutdown in some cities/states which was the case with 83. And also Gangubai released solo unlike 83. But you still think it’s a fair comparison?

Yes pushpa and spider man managed during same condition did they not? plus 83 was a film about cricket, India s first world cup film. If you compare odds were more in favour of 83 than gangubai still ganguabi managed and 83 did not . More shows are being added for gangubai because demand is more while shows were cancelled for 83

Consistency is the key. we saw what happend to other „superstar „ actors and their opening changing from 10 to 8 to 5 sometimes more or even less. 83 being dragged and the negativity that was spread because of a Budget still Managed to cross 100 that too without much contribution from Delhi . Cause tomorrow if Alia comes with her next solo release and she will have an opening with 6cr. Who will you blame ? director? cause Alia was able to have a good opening number with Bhansali?

10cr opening to brag for what? Every bhansali movie is niche if you make it about which kid will watch it or not. wasn’t there kids makeing reels about gangu? Weird that these kids were interested suddenly in marketing.

If 83 showed one thing crowded release will affect the movie. Again single screen isn’t to underestimate. And Yes omicron did affect and more so the multiplex audience. Stop comparing the situation in december with now when Alia is jumping infront of cinema halls and promoting like crazy.

Pushpa still didn’t do big numbers on a day it was the WOM and consistency mostly of the single screen that made such numbers.

I am still happy for the number that Gangu achieved still makes no sense to drag or compare.

I mean it’s funny how 83 budget was the most talked in trade a day before the movie released and now for Gangu no one is able to say the budget and suddenly is not important.

Kids also watch porn but do they watch it with their family? What I'm saying is a movie like Gangubai won't be watched in a family outing while 83 could've been.

Lol I'm giving credit to SLB so what's your point? There's no point in discussing imaginary future scenarios. If in future Alia gives a low opening then we'll see. What consistency? I'm talking about their most recent films. And it's not like Alia has always only given below par openings. Even Kalank first day figure was 18 Crores.

Pushpa didn't do big numbers in single day because Allu Arjun ain't a big star in North India. But Ranveer is right? In fact he's even a Superstar according to some people. He was supposed to bring big numbers on opening day.

Pushpa and Spider-Man numbers proved that audience didn't give a fuck about their safety or Covid. I'm not even talking about lifetime figures. It's just the opening.

If 83 opening was big but later on the film was rejected by the audience, then a case could've been made about Ranveer's stardom. But even the opening was low and single screen audience didn't know on the first day that 83 is a documentary.

Theaters in Delhi also closed after 83 release so these excuses don't work.

A better comparison is Ram Leela which was also a movie by SLB. Ranveer was just starting. SLB was down with failures. DP was the only crowd puller there.

You have a good argument that 83 faced competition from other films. But the competition only happened because 83 failed at the box office. Pushpa only did well in Hindi version because 83 was rejected by the audience.

Otherwise it was supposed to be a much bigger film than Spider-Man and Pushpa.

83 released solo. Spider-Man and Pushpa released one week before 83.

In the end PR can only do so much, when the public isn't interested. In Alia's case clearly the public is. While in the other case 🤡

In India hits/flops are determined if distributors make a profit. Producers/Investors often make a lot of profit on so called flops - they get the money from distributors, OTT, Satellite, Music & TV rights. That's why when people ask why do actors or directors with a lot of "flops" keep getting work - it's because their films make money for the producers/investors. Of course if you flop a lot then distributor fees go way down which might result in an average or hit verdict but makes the producer less money. 😆
