So Alia is a bigger star than Ranveer?

83 opening was 11 Crores.

Gangubai Kathiawadi opening is 9-10 Crores approx.

The main crowd pullers of 83 were Ranveer and Kapil Dev, whose fans were most likely to check out the movie on first day. Along with cricket enthusiasts and people who were impressed by the trailer and interested in the story.

Gangubai's main crowd pullers are Alia and SLB, in place of Ranveer and Kapil Dev. The movie's subject is related to brothels and prostitutes which likely kept family audience away.

83 on the other hand was a completely family friendly film. It released on 24th December, one day before Christmas so a partial holiday. Gangubai didn't have any festival advantage, released on complete non-holiday.

Still the opening difference is only 1 or 2 Crores. 83 was hyped as a big massy event film, was supposed to be a Blockbuster. While Gangubai was promoted as a content driven film only made for multiplex audience.

Both films released during the pandemic, and no don't use Omicron as an excuse. Because Pushpa only in Hindi version did more business than 83 in later weeks despite releasing one week early.

If you're going to give all credit to SLB for Gangubai's opening, do remember that 3 out of 5 Hits Ranveer has in his filmography is from SLB only.

Consistency is the key. we saw what happend to other „superstar „ actors and their opening changing from 10 to 8 to 5 sometimes more or even less. 83 being dragged and the negativity that was spread because of a Budget still Managed to cross 100 that too without much contribution from Delhi . Let’s not even mention overseas it even exposes Akshay kumar stardom.

Cause tomorrow if Alia comes with her next solo release and she will have an opening with 6cr. Who will you blame ? director? cause Alia was able to have a good opening number with Bhansali?

10cr opening to brag for what? Every bhansali movie is niche if you make it about which kid will watch it or not. wasn’t there kids makeing reels about gangu? Weird that these kids were interested suddenly in marketing.

If 83 showed one thing crowded release will affect the movie. Again single screen isn’t to underestimate. And Yes omicron did affect and more so the multiplex audience. Stop comparing the situation in december with now when Alia is jumping infront of cinema halls and promoting like crazy.

Pushpa still didn’t do big numbers on a day it was the WOM and consistency mostly of the single screen that made such numbers.

I am still happy for the number that Gangu achieved still makes no sense to drag or compare.

I mean it’s funny how 83 budget was the most talked in trade a day before the movie released and now for Gangu no one is able to say the budget and suddenly is not important.

And some say it is 200 crores then 10 crores is very less and if nothing improves then how is the movie a hit ?

I came across this. If the movie was sold to distributors for 90cr doesn’t that mean it needs 180cr to break even? Or 180 to become a hit?

The film has suffered with long delays and the budget has gone up and it needs a share of around 60 crore from theatres in India and Overseas to be in the black as it has 115 crore revenue from digital, satellite and music and going by the numbers in India and Overseas it will do that much on worst case. The profits like Sooryavanshi will not be huge but you take that due to the circumstances.

90 crores means it need 115 or 120 crores to call a hit as they mentioned.

I read two different articles in that one said budget is 180 crores and it need minimum 200 crores to call a hit..

If the above division is true then it need 115 or 120 crores to call it a hit.

Not some but Kangana. After the BS she has been talking in the last few years i dont think we trust her much.

The budget is no way more than 50-60 crs. It is well known that alia's fee is not very high.

OK BOI is seriously reaching with this kind of calculations. If we calculate satellite, digital rights, and music rights then practically every movie released is a hit. How much is the actual budget? BOI is not giving a number here. And how much was it sold for to distributors?
