We haven’t seen a big release of any of the mega stars since coronavirus set in and theatres closed. Only new gen actors like Rajkumar, aayushmaan, Vicky Kaushal, Kirti Sanon, Siddharth Malhotra, Kiara Advani have appeared in films. While big producers and big stars have totally shied away from releasing any major films. Despite of the fact that i read Pushpa which had a whooping budget of 250 crore already made 200 crore profit just by digital streaming of music and movie rights and limited theatre release. The point is money doesn’t seem an issue. If movie is good and garners record breaking views, OTT giants are ready to pay and compensate for production cost as well as achieve profit. Mainly so because they (Netflix, Amazon, Hotstar) are also in international entertainment business and hence paying in INR isnt an issue if the content is worthy. Then why the likes of Alia, Ranbir, Katrina, Salman, Ranveer, Hrithik, Deepika , Shahid have not had any releases on ott? Is it because they are scared that their movies aren’t content driven and tanking movies on ott means bad publicity? Are they apprehensive to do quality cinema because that then reduces the scope of masala movies and theatre business coming back to action ? Are they scared of being compared to OTT actors who deliver better and meaty performances and dont just dance around trees or come standing on cars or fly from building to building. Is it because they are scared that doing no glittery work will show their real worth and put their real talent to test. The fact that new budding actors and filmmakers and story writers have not been allowed in the industry has backfired on them badly. Now they seem scared that their mediocrity mask will come out any time soon .
