He was too good in that

Those are post 2000s hits. My post is specifically about 1990s. Sunil was barely doing films in 2000s. And moved to business ventures more than onscreen work post 2001.

That is because Sunil shifted tracks and began to focus more on his business ventures post 2001.

He was generally lazy and disinterested as a star or actor. He often yawned in interviews and hardly promoted films, never did talk shows, stage shows nor attended award shows. In acting he mainly focused on action and to some extent comedy.

He was doing great during Mohra, Waqt Hamara hai, Border, Gopi Kishen, Rakshak, Vinashak days but wasted opportunities. His last hurrah is 2000 when he did Dhadkan and Hera Pheri.

After that he did films like Yeh tera ghar yeh mera ghar etc but mostly focused on doing films to fund his business ventures. Did not even take his film career as seriously as he did in 90s. He has expensive restaurants in Bombay and prime metropolitan cities now, invested in fitness app, gyms, has his own gym, talent hunt app etc. And is close to BJP as well. His main interests are off screen and he never focused on acting at all after 2000s.

I was surprised to see him in Darbar with Rajinikanth. I did not expect him to return to acting. His main focus is still fitness and action. I felt he was disinterested in Phir Hera Pheri too and was better in the original in terms of acting.

I doubt given how disinterested he is, he can ever bother about acting again.

Akshay changed a lot post 2000 and reinvented himself, cultivated political links, upgraded PR, marketed himself and did versatile roles. He did not just stick to action. His shift to romantic comedies and message films kept him relevant. He is dabbling in historicals also, which Sunil would never.

Well I know that Suneil was a bigger star than Saif in 90s but if you're making a comparison, you need to compare their whole career and not just one decade.

I responded to someone else's post where the user claimed Sunil had no solo hits or stardom ever or even in 90s. The comparison was specifically on 90s. Not whole career. Of course when you add 2000s and 2010s, 2020 etc you have Saif ahead of Sunil.

We were originally not comparing their whole careers anyway. Just stardom in 90s.

Otherwise Sunil neither has versatility, looks or pedigree or even PR skills of Saif. He was an average looker known mainly for fitness, action and comic timing. He shifted gears to other ventures later when he was no longer interested in acting or updating himself as an actor. Post 2000 phase cannot be compared anyway when Sunil began to cut down on his work and focused more on his business. Even today Saif's main source of income is acting while Sunil's main source of income is his businesses. Sunil is a fairly shrewd and savvy businessman. Films are only his way to fund his business for him. Comparison in later decades makes no sense when Sunil was not into acting or films as a priority anyway.

The post was only in response to 90s comparison. Not entire public life or career.

It's true though. Suneil Shetty never gave a solo Hit, not even in 90s. The movies you listed like Gopi Kishan were either Semi-Hit or Average, not clean Hits.

I don't know what is your source, but according to Box Office India he has no solo clean Hits in his filmography.

I do believe Suneil was a crowdpuller in 90s, and even in multistarrer films he had a big hand in their success.

But lack of solo Hits were the reason he wasn't put in the league of Sanjay Dutt, Anil Kapoor and Govinda either, whose careers as lead actor also ended after 90s.

just watch bhoot police , he is any day better then actors like akshay, may be he hardly focused on nurturing PR who always shout how great some actor is. Still when one see sacred game for such serious role or bhoot police for comic horror he is excellent.

True, he has 0 star power BUT Saif can act, he can really act. The issue is his greed and bad career choices. He tried to follow Salman’s path and bank on super massy films when he should have really stayed in his lane as he really carved a niche for himself earlier in his career and is truly versatile (which got somehow hijacked by Ranbir). It used to be a pleasure to see him on screen, and he’s always had brilliant chemistry with his co-actresses, be it Preity, Deepika, Vidya. He is underrated but needs to choose better scripts.
