Furthermore, the law in France makes it mandatory for anybody that notices this type of issue to report it to the justice system. The Jesuit school should have reported her and apparently never did.

No teacher from a working class origin, would have gotten away with this by being able to silence everybody. This man grew up in the idea that money can buy ANYTHING, including something as horrendous as getting away child sexual abuse. How could both of them be fitted for this office? This makes me so nauseated that I even refrain from watching French TV.

Hmmm. The person who wrote this answer says they started dating when he was fifteen, as if both of them have admitted to it. They claim they began a relationship after he was 18. It's ...you know...still in that territory but if he was actually 18 before she responded in that way it would be unfair to call her a predator. I'm leery of their situation..tres creepeau if it began earlier but we can't be sure like the quora person is making it out to be. If there was any evidence to the answerer 's claim Macron's opponent Marine La Pen's campaign would have used that long ago

What I like about it is that here it's a woman who is the older one, when all we see is men with wives gfs and mistresses young enough to be their daughters or granddaughters . I think the former President Hollande had a much younger wife/mistress. It's nice that people( some people) accept Macron's relationship when usually people are quicker to judge when the woman is older but have no trouble shrugging it off if the man in almost in his grave.

Personally I can't imagine marrying my 18 yr old student, even if I'm 30. Would be weird.

My rule of thumb is

Under 20 relationship gaps should be a year or less.

Under 30 relationship gaps can be 2-3 years.

Over 30 then age doesn't matter.

The reason for that is that most people don't fully develop their cognitive function until 25 or later. Most twenty-somethings are still discovering themselves and their place in the world.

People who are young are very susceptible to being groomed by older adults. Even very smart capable and mature beyond their years people can also get groomed. Even when the older person in the relationship has good intentions, they can unintentionally condition a young person's life.

A 30-year-old dating a 56-year-old is a huge gap, but it's not a huge deal. Barring a few exceptions, most 30-year-olds have had time to figure what they want in life. But a 24-year-old with a 46-year-old is creepy.

Today, 43-year-old Macron being married to a 68-year-old doesn't seem problematic. They have even been married for almost 15 years. But the origins of their relationship are definitely creepy. Even if they claim the relationship began when he was 18, that's too young. Adding the fact that she was his teacher makes it even more problematic. Age of consent in most European nations is 15, so it would have never been illegal. But his parents were right in being alarmed. But its water under the bridge now?

Although I love the show Friends, I hate hate hate the Frank and Alice plotline. It is so creepy. Same with Ross and Elizabeth. I used to think it was sweet, especially because I see Ross as a harmless doofus - but its so wrong not just because of age gaps - but the power dynamic.

Ah. Makes me wonder why Macron's parents didn't press charges back in the day. I guess they would have to prove that the relationship was sexual which can be difficult to do.

Also, I wonder if Macron's parents created a loophole when they moved him to a different school. Technically, then it could be argued she had no authority over him and should be treated like a private citizen engaged in a relationship with someone over the age of consent.

Daddy issues are a different ball game altogether. Sometimes it is not their choice or not in their hands. We can always thrive to rise above it but it is easier to be said than done.
