He gave a string of flops right after KNPH until Koi Mil Gaya (and Kabhi Khushi Kahbhi Gam in the middle) and since then has had a rocky patch with some blockbusters and equal number of flops in the middle.

I do think Hrithik too got the same advantage that Abhishek has received for being a star kid of a famous actor/director which still holds true for all the newer starkids as well like Ranbir, Alia etc. They get hyped up even after delivering flops.

Fiza and Mission Kashmir weren't flops though they were later spun to be so along with the headline FINISHED with his face on a top film magazine - a few weeks right before KMG opened. Meanwhile Abi had still yet to deliver one hit (and wouldn't until his 16th film with Dhoom in 2004) and the media wasn't dragging him. Why? He was a Bachchan not a Roshan.

When Kareena dropped out of KNPH (to make Refugee with ABJr) Rakesh lost a significant number of distributors because while he'd become a successful director his wasn't a big name (a second banana actor who couldn't by the end feed or house his family on his paychecks which is why he became a producer then director) and no one was banging down doors and laying out the red carpet to see his son's debut. Kapoor's name held more weight. He had to mortgage his house, cars and watches to make the film with Hrithik. The film opened bracketed by films by Amir and SRK and demolished both - not because of media hype or nepotism but a superstar making performance. A performance based on talent but also a lot of dedication and years of hard work.

In the 2000s Hrithik had 5 of 10 of the most attended Hindi films His success wasn't about hype. Other directors and studios didn't and don't offer Hrithik films because of who his father is.

The first letter is same as in Rishi's name, so Rithik sounds conventional to me. But it's actually a Sanskrit letter and not really an R, so maybe they differentiated by making it 'HR'. Also, it should've been Hruthik (It's actually Sanskrut and not Sanskrit!!!).

Hrithik's dad was nowhere near Amitabh Bachchan. So it is unfair to say Hrithik had same advantage as Abhishek.

Abhishek was way more overhyped and exposed in media from childhood itself and hyped as some next shehanshah like his dad, with media spinning tales on his tall, dark, handsome looks or claiming he looks better than his dad.

Some chamchas even went to extent of claiming he acts better than his parents Jaya and Amitabh. 🤣

Abhishek had way more fanfare, chamchagiri around him compared to Hrithik who just came from nowhere. Hrithik was never featured in any magazine before KNPH. No hype, no anticipation or build up for him. He just struck a chord with audience and took people by surprise.

Yes his dad launched him and made films suitable for him, played to his strengths in Krissh and Koi Mil Gaya, but Hrithik was never ever as hyped or had support from industry, media, political circles as Abhishek had.

Abhishek still has that undeserved highest state govt award for youth from UP govt when SP was in power. Hrithik never got such state honours as his parents are not MPs or politically well connected.

Hrithik and Vivek Oberoi were less advantaged nepo kids as their fathers were never stars at all.

Amitabh was bankrupt before Abhishek Bacchan debuted with Refugee. No one in this industry even looks at you once you lose power the reason why Amitabh literally had to go and ask Yash Chopra for work while his house was getting mortgaged. No one in Bollywood will continue doing chamchagiri of someone who has lost all his power and money due to bankruptcy. If he indeed had so many chamchas and well wishers, Amitabh wouldn't have had to go along begging for work and borrowed money from his staff then, he would've got them from his so called chamchas. Rakesh Roshan was an already established actor-producer-director then.Hrithik got a tailor made debut for him produced and directed by his dad with hit music from his uncle. And whenever he flopped he had his daddy's back who resurrected him with more home productions. Rakesh doesn't have to be of Amitabh' stature to do that though when Hrithik had debuted Amitabh's stature was low inviting bad press due to his bankruptcy. Plus both Hrithik and Abhishek are childhood friends. One doesn't just become friends with someone out of their social and economical circle in an industry like Bollywood where money and power speaks.

No use playing down on Hrithik's nepotism to make it look like it's only Abhishek who has benefited from his dad when Hrithik too has and does till date. He was an assistant director on set and child actor of films starring big actors back then. Which ordinary kid does that? It's something that only entitled starkids get to do that even continues today. Like I said no one can deny Hrithik had the most ground breaking debut with KHPH but all the string of flops past that can pretty much make anyone rethink if it was again the same kind of manufactured PR that starkids do these days. No one knows since we all were young back then and audience was less informed since PR wasn't hot news back then.

I mean just google Rakesh Roshan and the first result you get is article after article of Rakesh Roshan on HR's birthday telling how he went and opened Suzzane's car door after divorce, how he is an introvert, how he penned a note for his darling son, how his parents celebrated his birthday...I mean a barrage of PR articles on his son's birthday. Just like Amitabh. Only difference- Hrithik has more hits. But neither of them has to worry if they again flop because they will keep getting work due to their father. Thanks to nepotism.
