Are there any realistic depictions of second-gen NRIs in Bollywood?

I might be mistaken, but to my knowledge there is no movie which shows second-generation NRIs in a realistic way. They are mostly shown speaking in pure unaccented Hindi, and following Indian customs even though literally NO kid born or brought up in the US or Europe takes any interest in their parent's culture. From what I've seen, they might like individual stuff like food Or movies, but that's it.

Do you agree?

Believe it or not, we outside of India follow more traditions and culture than the people who are actually in India. Whenever I go to India, I get a culture shock. My cousins look at me like I was a FOB. Our kids are a part of some or the other cultural associations where they are taught basic Sanskrit slokas and Prayer etc which I don’t see with the kids in India. Feeling too sleepy to write more but I hope you got what I am trying to say! :)

Are you American born? First-generation immigrants do hang on to their culture, but second-generation kids are 409% American from what I've seen.

My toddlers know arti , I know for sure my grown fob cousins don't know any of it. I think it's realistic to say we have more culture than the ananyas of the world.

That is about as inaccurate a generalisation as there ever was - your data set for taking a call on Indians living in India must be either very small or very skewed.

I have lived abroad for 10 years, and yes, many Indian families make sure they follow their Indian traditions and try their best to instil that in their kids (with varying degrees of success).

People are equally aware of their culture and traditions here in India. Whether you are in north or south - families pray regularly, visit temples every week, etc. Kids learn Hindi / Tamil / Sanskrit / etc in school, so there is no need to put in extra effort for such classes.

Aaj ki date mein...the Indian kids are more like Poo...than the 2nd generation NRI kids 😆

On a serious note....the 2nd generation kids are more aware of our culture...and I am including not just Indian culture but the desi culture....because we their parents don't take it for granted....

I don't know what will happen to the 3rd and 4th generation......follow karenge toh bhi theek ...nahi karenge toh bhi theek...as long as they are good human beings..every culture has their good and bad points and taking a little bit of good from all the cultures is fantastic....Just don't disrespect anyone's culture and faith..

Being aware of the culture and actually practising it are two different things. My maternal grand-uncle is fascinated by Chinese culture, has a lot of memorabilia in his home. As a result, his kids i.e. my second cousins have knowledge of Chinese culture from a very young age. Doesn't mean that they consider themselves Chinese. 😆

Knowing a few trivia and liking food etc. doesn't mean that you actually internalize it, right?

My apologies....I should have said....aware and practice.....but kids here....atleast the ones I know....do all kids of poojas..go to the temples, celebrate Rakshabandhan, Bhai dooj....know how to sing Bhajans, shlokas and Aarati...do Dandia/Garba...play Holi...my Pakistani friend's kids celebrate Eid.....and my kids wait for Eid to get the Eidi that Aunty gives them..😆......they also celebrate Thanksgiving, Christmas...dress up for Halloween....celebrate 4th of July and other American things......I don't know how they are different from the Indian kids....the difference will always be there in their accent and the way they speak Hindi or their mother tongue...other than that...sab same hai..
