For better or worse…
What does a man facing a possible jail sentence of five years do? Get married hardly seems like the right answer, but that's apparently what Sanjay Dutt did. The actor, who recently split with girlfriend Nadia Durrani, is said to have tied the knot with Manyata, a divorcee who was brought up in Dubai. The grapevine has it that the couple wed on November 19 last year at Dutt's Bandra home; news leaked after they made a public appearance at a recent film awards function. The lady (whose real name is Dilnawaz Sheikh) is said to belong to a 'conservative upper middle-class family'; pray, what was she doing in an item number in Prakash Jha's Gangajal then?
Autograph please
Would a hot-ticket star ever ask for another's autograph? Well, strange things happen to you if you are James Bond, as actor Daniel Craig found out. On the sets of The Invasion, superstar Nicole Kidman asked Craig for an autograph as soon as he was signed for the role. Her son Connor was a great Bond fan, she said. That was perhaps Craig's first autograph as Agent 007, and a rare taste of lack of vanity in a celeb.
Stringing it out
For N. Karthik of Bangalore, it was a dream partly come true, albeit after a long wait. The 32-year-old business grad notched up a record 50 veena concerts in 24 hours in November 2005; however, he had to wait until last October for the Guinness Book of World Records to approve his feat. "Anyone can break my record," concedes Karthik, "if they can forgo the 1 a.m. to 4 a.m. break." That hardly sounds easy. Meanwhile, Karthik is on to fulfilling his dream in its entirety: popularising the veena all over the world.
Shake it, baby
She has the curves and the moves. However, the Kaliyon ka chaman girl has been away from the jhatak-matak scene for two years now. Meghna Naidu, who had some notions about her acting talent, was trying her luck in B-grade films. She now returns to shaking her booty for Ashok Kumar Nanda's film, Riwaz. She also features in the video of the infamous song, Sutta. "I realised I had ignored Mumbai," she says; perhaps she does not want Mumbai to ignore her now.
Life's no game
To wed or not to wed… that seems to be the dilemma Aussie leg-spinner Shane Warne is in. Warne is divorced from model-wife Simone Callahan (in pic, with daughter), but the two still share a home in Melbourne. He half-wants to remarry her but is not sure if he can remain true to her. Warne is famed for extramarital googlies, but now that he has retired from international cricket, he should perhaps try not to score. Pun intended.
