If good looks means fair skin and looking like a sex object then yes.

Bollywood audience is obsessed with good looks of actors as well.

The trend of six pack abs and muscular leading men started from last decade. In 90s a chubby actor like Govinda could be a Superstar which is not possible today's time.

I think both looks + talent are important

Cinema is a visual medium so of course looks are important!

If looks were that important , then the prettiest and sexiest ones are reduced to instathots and doing some role here and there

We have avg Alia , ugly jhanvi, bland Tapsee, botched up face anushka , sometime manly kriti as main heroines now.

I think a lot of it also has to do with the storylines the actresses are doing. A lot of movies include a storyline about love at first sight or being pretty enough to grab someone's attention. I, as the audience, will REFUSE to believe someone who comes on screen looking like an unpeeled unbaked potato grabbed anyone's interest upon first look 😃

Love at first sight is a trope which Bollywood has overused to death. I don't think this trope is how love actually works in the real world.

Sexist movies like Kabir Singh, sure.

But where there's a nuanced understanding of love, I think love at first sight is not that important.

The movie Ae Dil Hai Mushkil where Ranbir loves an average-looking Anushka over gorgeous Aishwarya is more realistic of how love actually works and not lust.

Not sure about other countries. Hollywood seems to prioritise acting talent over looks.

Ranbir and Ranveer are both average looking, so is Ayushmann.

Not sure if obsessed is the correct word but it is a visual medium and I guess as humans we like pretty faces but I think thats for both actors and actresses, for me atleast. I guess today with the correct makeup and lighting no actress looks particularly bad though.

You find them average looking, your opinion of others isn't pathar ki lakeer.

On one hand you agree with Shy that almost all actresses in India are average looking and than you open this thread.

Make up your mind.
