Would you have forgiven Rajiv if you were Payal in Ishq Vishk?

In Ishq Vishk (2003), Rajiv was a jerk on so many levels. Not only did he try to use Payal, he also made derogatory statements about her in front of their entire group. Then he went on to replace her as soon as the new hot girl walked into college.

He never respected her feelings or tried to understand their depth. He never respected her even as a friend. The things he said to her were mean on another level.

Later he 'realises' his mistake when Alisha comes across as too 'modern' and realises the 'sanskari' girl was meant for him all along.

The whole movie tries to polarise the girls into two extremes, and is hugely problematic.

I think I would never have forgiven Rajiv if I was Payal.

She was in love with him since childhood, dreamt of him everyday. Wrote a diary including all the interactions of him and her, which Rajeev must not even have cared or realised..

She knew he was not perfect, she knew he would never like her, it was ek tarfa pyar for her. But, she loved him.

Ideally, no she shouldn't have forgiven him...But, if I am going to put myself in place of Payal, I must consider all these...so, I don't know, all those dreams, karwachauth, bachpan ka pyar.

Like, Anjali from Kuch kuch hota hai, like Divya from Bodyguard, pyar is everything for them, if they don't get their sachha pyar, they would be depressed, always crave for them lifelong, no mood to move on... so forgiving is better than ghut ghut kar rehna daily loving the person..

But, yeah, he was a jerk to both the girls. I felt so bad for Alisha too, poor her, he used all those tricks to get her, god! Yeah, she was an idiot to fall for him by those stupidity but she wasn't at fault too.

Nah. Rajiv was a perv and a jerk. But then again they were mentally 15-16 year olds and I forgave shitty men at that age too. Ishq Vishq was such a high school-ish movie despite the characters being a little older and in college. Rajiv looking for his first kiss! Rajiv wants to be the most popular boy in school!!

I think in real life scenario, girls fall out of love after some time. Not because of him being an ass, but the idea of relationship that she had with him, dreaming about him all her life. It’s actually childish foolishness and infatuation, not love.

For her, it was all fantasy. We don’t see them in a relationship and how it would actually work out, it was just the idea of it.. and he realises his attachment and the movie ends. That actually describes most Bollywood movies...actual relationships are nothing like that. It takes more than mutual attraction and so called sacha pyar to survive.

True.. most Bollywood movies don’t really show an actual relationship.. especially ones during the era..1990s and early 2000s.

In all seriousness, I’ll never be able to forget that he used me, despite being my childhood friend, and then ditched me when I didn’t serve his purpose. Then he goes around dating someone else just because she’s ‘better looking’. Fcuk that with a capital F. He can kiss my Kim Kardashian ass. 💁🏽‍♀️
