So guys, I finally watched Bombay Begums and here's my take on it:

This is Alankrita Srivastava at her trademark best, creating sassy, bold female characters with lots of agency, nerves of steel, and grit. All 5 female characters are different, yet have one thing in common: they go against the grain. Be it Pooja Bhatt's character who has an indomitable spirit or Amrita Subhash's character who lives in the slums yet harbours dreams of greatness, the characters are infused with individuality and spark. This series is mainly to be watched for the characterisation, not the plot points, which are predictable and a bit of a let down.

I loved Shy's character too, the daughter who rejects her stepmom, both at a personal and symbolic level. She dreams of rebellion and is absolutely convincing as the new-age teenager who has a mind of her own.

Screenplay is tight and engaging...but as I said, the highlight of the series is the characterisation, celebrating women of ambition, women who lead colourful lives, and are unapologetically themselves.

Definitely worth watching.

Has anyone seen it, and if so, what's your opinion of it?

The acting was really good of all the lead actors. For those who go by plot as the main device, the movie will be a let down. But if you go by characterisation, it's a good watch.

It's there. But watch it within the next one day or so, it's run into some controversy and might get taken off any moment.

I started it but it didn't hold my interest for long. Maybe I should give it another go!

Haven't watched it but a senior class fellow from my school is the other director (along with Alankrita), so I'm happy that she is getting some recognition now. Don't know any of other names apart from Pooja Bhatt. Was a big fan of her acting in general in the 90s - the movies were terrible, but she always had screen presence (even though she was a terrible dancer!). Also, unpopular opinion, but I think she's a better actress than Alia.
