Even mainstream movies with outsiders bomb, regardless of quality. Some part of blame has to be taken by the audience - things are just going to change magically. Either make an effort, or dont crib

Its like the people who do not go out to vote, and then complain about the government. Atleast put efforts on your end as the bare minimum first

This is such a wild assumption to make that people who bash nepotism or nepo-products also follow them on social media and watch their movies.

How do you know that? How does anyone know that?

If there is an anti-nepotism brigade, then there is also an equally opposite force of nepotism supporters, some of them being on this very thread itself.

Then there is a large number of audience who doesn't care about any of this star-kid or outsider drama, and just wants to watch a movie which appeals to them.

Most of the audience is like that. They just want to watch a well packaged movie, which often stars a nepo-kid.

People who are against nepotism itself are very less in number. If you want to shame them for being less in number then...fine.

None of us know what we do in our real life. Whether we watch movies of nepo-kids or not, or whether we watch movies of outsiders or not.

So stop making judgements without knowing shit.

That's such a twisted logic. A better voting analogy would be this--even though people do go out to vote, the "electoral college" flips the game despite popular opinion. It might also surprise you but people will always "crib" about things that are waved in their face 24/7 when they don't like what they see ... it's their right. Much like people "crib" about Kangana and the government here 24/7 .... am I supposed to assume that they didn't vote now?

There is also no getting through to the lowest common denominator that makes up majority of the population, especially when they're most likely uneducated and just not intelligent enough to understand the consequences of their two hour long entertainment choices or care enough to go out of their way to make conscious choices. They only care about unwinding after a long day and they will consume whatever's waved in their faces... in this case, nepo products. You can't have your cake and eat it too ... just admit that Nepo kids employ deceptive business strategies to turn themselves into household names cuz they have the means to do so.

Since you're also so hung up on supply/demand, do you think people liked watching Suraj Pancholi in Hero and do you think he was awarded the best debut of the year title because audience wanted it? And do you think people want to watch him again in another movie... that though with Katrina's sister? If someone who is undeniably problematic and disliked by people is rolled out a red carpet, you can only imagine how it works for Ananya, Shanaya, Alia, etc. who start off with a clean slate. These people are not catering to the audience but themselves ... and that is evident enough by now. Except a handful of selected artists like Ayushman, etc. who defy the status quo by sheer luck with some talent, bollywood and its ugly, underhanded dealings are not dictated by economic graphs and certainly not by what the audience wants.

Let’s not deny a human being of their truth just be coz we don’t like them. No one wants to open can of worms ...few business are as dirty as film industry.

There is nothing problematic about nepotism . It’s very simple , when you spend millions to groom ur child , pay for scripts, PR . You will do everything to make them succeed . Use all your clout and lobby machinery.

One has to agree to play this game if you want to be a movie star. It’s like taking abuse in a boxing rink . not everyone can be lucky . I don’t think Taapsee is particularly talented or even sane ...she learnt to adapt now she is slowly accepted into the fold ... not quite there but crawling her way . You must be Naive to think she will stoke the nepotism issue .

I’d rather watch Alia Bhatt than Tapsee ...after seeing Badla that movie was made in 3 different languages in long the original... Tapsee was the most underwhelming among all of them. Watch the south version ... Regina George nailed it .

And what will Deepika say ... few years down the lane she will be launching her own kids along with Ranveer .

@bold, why just stop at the boxing analogy?

I'll go far ahead and say it's the same as dying for your country. If you join army then you should be ready to die for your country.

And there's nothing problematic about that either right?

Can you please explain why Sara Ali Khan with a shitty filmography has 30M followers on insta, while on of my favs Tapsee has only 18M? It can't just be BOTS and PR for almost double the followers. General public is more interested in nepo kids, because they come with a legacy behind them. Kareena/Saif/Kapoor fans will automatically follow Sara and would be curious to know how she acts and performs in her first movie, as opposed to a Tapsee.

The bigger production houses will milk this interest to get a big opening and set up a bigger canvas for nepo movies. Is it FAIR to nepo kids? Absolutely not. I wish they were given a fair playing field, so that Bollywood fans like us wouldn't have to see good movies being wasted by incompetent actors and directors. But unfortunately, nepo kids sell. And blaming it just on the Bollywood machinery and media is not going to fix the issue if the audience is not willing to take up part of the blame.

I agree partly and I am not hung up on only supply and demand. It is one of the reasons though IMO.

Nepo-kids have the means to do it because they were born in a movie family and are stinking rich. They also have a great support system in the city if shit hits the fan. Those are facts, and in an ideal world that wouldn't be the case.

But taking the blame away from the audience is not going to help the outsiders. We have had 3-4 threads on Jhanvi since the Roohi songs came out - discussing everything from her surgeries to her improved dancing to even being called her breakout year. Sanya Malhotra's thread with her latest teaser had about 5-10 comments. It is clear where the priorities of the audience lie. There was no compulsion here from the nepo kids right - no PR running this forum. But its the reality.

Another example: Nepotism is prevalent in many other fields. But why is Bollywood the most talked about? Because it is the stream the general public is most interested in. So the positives as well as the negatives of Bollywood are highlighted a lot more.

@Harley_Quinn

I am sorry, I respect your viewpoint but I do not agree with your assessment that we can wash off our hands from all responsibility here.

Lets just agree to disagree 😊

Nepotism exists everywhere and anywhere! It’s not just in Bollywood, and it’s not totally that bad. Not sure why people are trying to over-expose this as if it only happened in Bollywood. I think a lot of people are over-judging Bollywood and putting Bollywood in a pedestal because of their exposure. Also, endorsement will be easier to give to star kids because they are already famous and known. The purpose of endorsement is to promote their stuff, they wouldn’t just endorse to anybody especially who will not market their stuff to wider market share.

People seem to be forgetting that despite Bollywood being a nepotism place, it also gives opportunities to non-insider. There are some people like Ayushmann Khurana, Rajkumar Rao or Deepika Padukone or Priyanka Chopra who made their grounds for themselves etc. of course star kids will have it easier! It applies everywhere. Normal born kids will have to work for decades before they can become a director in a big multinational companies; the Ambani kids will only need a couple of years or perhaps zero experience to become a director in several Ambani’s companies. Does anybody call out the nepotism to that? 🤣 oh the hypocrisy!

Crazen aur unke logic. People praising alia for her performance are immediately Deepika haters

Do you people realise that not everyone s life revolves around great Deepika maate.
