So Safeena's character was supposed to have some depth and story of her own. Under her parents she lives a life of repression. The movie, Zoya even talked about this. To Safeena it's a life of extreme repression. She never got to express herself. There was all this pent up aggression in her that came out in fits and bursts and when it did it was dangerous. I wish the movie had addressed that instead of making it seem like she was just a possessive woman madly in love.

I agree, but I know so many females who celebrated this kind of character and her 'swag' and endorsed adjectives like 'spunky', 'brave', 'daredevil' on her. It was the height of hypocrisy.

She wasn't presented as anything but toxic. Alia didn't portray her as anything but toxic, doing a fab job of balancing humanity with toxicity in fact. So where is the beef?

Safeena had deep rooted toxic issues in her. This is patriarchy when twice she confronts the girls involved with her boyfriend but never has a clear conversation or gives an ultimatum to the boy. She could get all violent with Srishti's character or Sky but doesn't come to take her boyfriend head on.

Deeply patriarchal, toxic and manipulative

She was definitely a problematic character, but then one cannot exactly be cordial towards the woman who is trying to steal your boyfriend.

How can someone steal an adult human? Like it wasn't like Murad was drugged and kidnapped...he willingly replied to the girls message or to Sky's advances. He lied to Safeena on his will. The only person responsible is Murad of not revealing the truth in time. Safeena needed to speak with Murad not be abusive to the women. They weren't committed to her, Murad was.

But they were at fault too, Murad was at fault, totally, but both of those girls were also horny bsatards. You don't try on someone's boyfriend/girlfriend.

And it is not patriachy, it is an insecurity and blind love/trust/addiction towards the partner. I know guys who forgave their cheating girlfriends, and be angry with the dudes trying, and also girls who forgave their boyfriend.

Yes it is more with gals forgiving guys and less with guys forgiving gals. But I don't think, we can pinpoint that totally to patriarchy, but mostly with how much obssessed a person is with another person, that they are willing to ignore the shortcoming to an extreme extent.

The fact is them trying on Murad doesn't make them as much wrong as Murad giving into them. Murad was committed to Safeena the girls weren't. They shouldn't have been trying on him, he responding is worse than them trying.

Why I say patriarchy is because of the common notion of ladki ne phasaya. Ladka tog bechara bhola hai 😆.
