Thought item songs started with Helen in Bollywood.

Malayalam movies are really good with great acting and scripts . Give them a try . Not everything is cheesy and corny as depicted in some southern industry and they don’t represent all of south India.

This is slightly off topic but it seems like we hear more about suicide among actresses from the South... Sometimes very talented actresses with promising careers... Does this have something to do with the culture?

Sometimes the heroes look like they don’t give a da*n about grooming and I am not talking about the complexion...

Although they prefer fair skinned women they also are not that particular about jiggles, if anything seem to have a preference for jelly bellies with extreme close ups to jiggly navels

Anyway years ago there was a BW movie where the heroine hunts down her rapist and marries him, I think that was a remake of a popular award winning southern movie.

Used to be common theme among southern movies (not Malayalam though) - girls committing suicide after being raped (cz she’s filthy now and that’s her only option) or marrying the rapist.

I agree that south cinema is problematic but I won't say that it is far more problematic than Bollywood movies, I would say it is as vexed as Bollywood movies. If you take the example of Tamil movies ,a good number of their mainstream movies represent the life in villages, for instance Asuran , subramaniapuram , even the so called pure commercial movie will have their cultural touch and as we all know if we depict Indian culture ,patriarchy, fair skin obsession, casteism are part of it. How many mainstream Bollywood movies are relatable to Indian culture ?

If Kabir Singh or Arjun Reddy is a blockbuster that means either majority of audience fantasise the submissive partner or they don't find anything unusual about it.

If Amy Jackson is a star in Tamil industry , we shouldn't forget the fact that a non actor, foreigner Katrina is one of the celebrity with huge fanbase.

In Malayalam film industry , Manju warrior ,40+ woman is still considered to be lady superstar ,grabbed almost all big projects last year, Nayantara and Anushka Shetty ,both 35+ actresses are still doing leading roles . Sai pallavi ,not a conventional beauty is a lead actress even without doing lip kiss, bikini scene or on that matter not any skin exposure.

Whereas in Bollywood, we believes that Deepika's time is over as she is 35, Priyanka is old. Except Rani( Thanks to her home production) we cannot claim that any of the 40+ actress is doing any lead role in any ambitious project.

In South there are people like Parvathy,Nitya Menon, Sai pallavi within the industry criticise the mysogynist approach but thanks to their talent they are still working in ambitious project but unfortunately barring a toxic Kangana we don't have a single mainstream insider who points out the unfair treatment in industry .

I am not whitewashing South industry ,I don't undermine the fact that Tollywood is probably worst than Bollywood but Tollywood though the major investor and income generating industry is not the only film industry in South.
